my company was bought out 6 months ago and they new company had a department wide call today and they said they are giving us 30 days verbal notice that they will be making cuts nationwide and it will affect people on the call.
there were about 200 of us on the call and my fearing the worst im assuming i will be one of them because ive been here so long and make good money.
i havent had to look for a job in 11 years so i dont even know where to start. i love what i do. i work from home, make my own schedule and travel locally during the week, and make great money.
what would your first step be in looking? are headhunters/staffing places worth a shite?
what about the ladders and all the career websites? i know most are probably BS. getting the resume polished up now and have to be ready!

At least you're getting notice. I've known people that got laid off on a Friday with no notice. They were told to GTFO.
Even with notice, it still sucks.

Damn, hopefully you won't have to worry about it. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about that. I've been through that before and it sucks.
Dust off the resume, and update it....set up a profile on Monster, Indeed, etc. Update your business contact list and maybe check to see if there are any opening with them.

I have received a few bites from the LinkedIn Job search.

LinkedIn is a pretty good business networking site. Get on there ASAP and make connections with as many co-workers, clients, competitors, etc as you can find. Indeed is a pretty good career website. You'll probably get bombarded with recruiters when you sign up for LinkedIn. Some of them are pretty good. Just be selective and be prepared to detect BS. Good luck.

ok then, two questions
1. Is LinkedIn premium worth it?
2. Are headhunters worth it?

prep your resume and start calling competitors and/or businesses with positions similar to yours
good luck

Not sure about LinkedIn premium, but yes, recruiters and headhunters are worth it. Especially since they're free to you.

I got zero notice when I got laid off in late feb, so at least you're getting it
don't be against taking some time off to yourself, to get your home projects done and shite. it's been nice, to be honest. but I'm ready to get back to work. collecting unemployment isn't glamorous at all, but it's something. good thing the wife makes as much as I did when I was employed.

I found out why you're being fired

Sorry to hear, headhunters are a great asset.
This is one of my worries about every moving into a work-from-home role. In our small office (satellite office of a larger company), I work with a director who I am fully confident "has our back."
I find out issues early, know he fights for raises, etc, and if the shite ever hit the fan, he'd be a great ally.
Other opportunities come open from time to time, and I see both sides to working from home.
If I'm on an island working from home, does that make for an easier cut?

Went to work on a Wednesday morning. Was told about an hour later I was laid off. Luckily I got a fairly decent severance package. Worked for GE O&G
