re: For first time, more women than men entering medical school

I think you’ll ultimately find that the women enjoy the attention for wearing the white coat, but aren’t into the actual dirty work required. You want your doctor to be the kind of person, while lancing the hideous abscess, to whisper to you, “hey, don’t tell anybody, but I’d do this for free I enjoy it so much.” It’s the same with law and engineering and anything else that has thankless tedium associated with it.

All this means is that there will a shortage of doctors in 10-15 years as it’s been shown that female doctors do not practice as long it as often as male doctors.
Not saying all female doctors, just avaerages

The biggest issue with this isn’t merit but the length and hours women historically work.. If the past is indicative, they will work less hours and retire or stop working sooner than there male counterparts.

This is no surprise as the ratio of men to women on college campuses has been shrinking for a long time.
No one wants to talk about this as a problem, but it is. Many years ago, the system was tilted against women in education. But the problem is... we’ve overcorrected.

For all of the coverage that the "the patriarchy" gets, nobody wants to talk about how many other quality of life metrics there are where women are ahead of men. Feminists and liberals love to throw out the flawed "wage gap" stat as if it is the smoking gun of sexism, but they fail to mention everything else. Men are more likely to battle depression, commit suicide, get incarcerated, and suffer from drug addiction. Men lag behind women in most education metrics. Men also have a shorter life expectancy. Meanwhile more women are attending college. They have better test scores, grades, and are more likely to get undergraduate/graduate degrees.
I'm not saying Women never have to worry about anything because there are a lot of legitimate women's issues that need addressing....but boys/men aren't exactly thriving either despite the cries from the left that we live in a "patriarchy" where women are somehow oppressed. The left celebrates "Feminism" while dismissing and mocking "masculinity." Meanwhile the quality of life metrics for men get worse every year.

Will this create a nursing shortage?
Posted on 10/12/18 at 8:32 am to TejasHorn
This is happening because they rejected me and other deserving men. It’s a political shite show who gets in now. I was even told a black man with my stats would’ve walked in, but not me.

I honestly don’t think this is an affirmative action issue. Most med schools want to keep a 50/50 ratio. I think women mature faster than guys and are more likely to have their shite together in high school and college. Problem is that when they finish they tend to be less career oriented.

My daughter graduated in May and one classmate graduated with a 3.3 GPA and below avg MCAT and was accepted by every med school she applied to. Another friend had a 3.9GPA and very good MCAT, not accepted.
The one accepted everywhere, female from Kenya, the other was a white male from Colorado. But there is no discrimination in the process, lol

We had a CEO of a healthcare company come and talk to one of my MBA classes. He was very blount and said this is a major issue they are facing. Not that females aren't capable of doing the job, just that around 30-35 the majority want to quit or work part time due to kids. And it isn't a job that pairs well with that schedule. He said men will work all the time, and are a premium.

Who is going to cover the hospital when their synchronous periods cause them to get pregnant at exactly the same time?

Nope. Most people who go into nursing are either 1) not smart enough for medical school or 2) don't want to make that kind of commitment (medical school) for a career.

Couldn't you say that for any field though? When you consider maternity leave, etc?

Yeah you could...y’all are lazy.

So by the OT's standards you either are a female that works and never has children or if you want children...your only option is to never work and be a stay at home mom? Maybe you sell Rodan and Fields if your husband allows it?
Never change OT, never change.

I don't know many female doctors but the few I know are trying to work part-time or trying to quit because they married a rich surgeon or specialist.

Men aren’t applying to sell Rodman and fields and getting rejected
