Just to clarify. This isn’t entirely true. These numbers are just for the AAMC, which has become an incredibly liberal institution. They represent about ~65% of all US medical schools.
The AACOM represents the other ~35% of US medical schools. They are still more classically “metrically” oriented and less liberal as a whole. The national average for their schools are something like 65/35 male female. AACOM schools are also mostly White, Indian, and Asian, very few “under represented minorities.”
What’s sad is that among medical students, residents, and new physicians, women are more likely to commit suicide. It’s unfortunate and everyone tip toes around the issue, but the root of the problem is that there are only 24 hours in a day, and you can’t be a full physician and do right by your patients, stay up to date on new medical information, and also be the mother your family needs.
Sadly, too many young women are realizing this after they’ve put themselves in an incredible debt. It’s no fault to them, they’re incredibly gifted, but you can only wear so many hats.

Just had a discussion with an admissions rep from a medical school. He said “women are taking over health care”. Also said he “didn’t know who was actually going to practice” because a large percentage choose to give up their career when kids come along or work only part-time. He thinks primary care and “family medicine” will be done by Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners exclusively in the near future and physicians will all be specialists. Said black females are fastest growing segment and a black male who is competitive is like a “unicorn” and can write their ticket to any medical school and probably with a full ride scholarship.

Okay gun to your head. Your child needs life saving heart surgery. You can choose from two doctors. One is a man and one is a woman. Assuming all other things are equal, which do you choose? Remember your child’s life is at stake and you have to pick one.
whichever one is the better pediatric heart surgeon. idgaf if it’s a man or woman.

The black women who were invited for interviews had boards scores 1 standard deviation lower than the white and Asian guys.
Yeah but white and Asian guys don’t make YouTube videos of themselves dancing during surgery

This hasn’t been mentioned, but imo part of the issue is being a doctor is not all what it used to be. In years past if you wanted a great paying job doing good for society and were smart being a doctor was the best path.
There’s tons of guys that honestly dgaf about that anymore. There’s also a lot of political BS you have to deal with.
Instead you can go to get your mba and Work on Wall Street, be a programmer, Work big law, etc. So many options out there to hit $200k and have a similar if not better life.
Women on the other hand want to be a doctor to simply be a doctor. I simply don’t see that mindset very often in white males anymore.

Women getting more recommendations from men physicians hot for them.
Having straight A' s isn't enough to get in.
Don't you have to have a recommendation from another physician?

Why the hell do you care if they want work/life balance?
If they want fewer hours, they can take fewer patients.
That is EXACTLY the problem I am talking about. It’s not about men vs women or black vs white vs asian.
It’s about patients being seen and getting better. I am talking about the greater good and (usually) male doctors are the greatest good for the community.

It would be more meaningful to know the total applicants by race in addition to the percentage accepted, if Blacks also had the smallest total number of applicants compared to the other races then having the highest acceptance percentage takes on a different meaning, likewise Whites and Asians having a larger total applicant pool would make their overall acceptance percentage lower. I once read that English majors have the highest med school acceptance rate compared to other undergrad majors because so few English majors apply.

This is happening because they rejected me and other deserving men. It’s a political shite show who gets in now. I was even told a black man with my stats would’ve walked in, but not me.
Maybe try chiropractors technical college.

The biggest issue with this isn’t merit but the length and hours women historically work.. If the past is indicative, they will work less hours and retire or stop working sooner than there male counterparts.
Well of course women work less. They don’t get paid as much as men so there’s less incentive to work longer hours.
