We can sit back and smile at diversity but there will be a major physician shortage by 2025.

Of all the women that I know from my medical school class (20 years ago) only two are full time workers. About 6-8 of them married guys in our class and immediately went part time or retired completely.

The remainder went into administrative, insurance, or work part time in a large group.

Only one of them is a full time surgeon (she never married) and one is a full time pediatrician who married an attorney. Both were top notch students and are excellent physicians.

But the OVERWHELMING majority of women will not put in the hours as a physician to help our communities.

Shortages are coming. Will not be pretty.

Yeah the issue is not wether or not they are qualified because honestly I’d bet a lot of money they have GPAs and MCATs that would qualify them for admission. It’s that women physicians are much more likely to go part time earlier on in their careers. I’m sure there is evidence/data showing this but just like dragonmaster, it’s been my experience with women colleagues as well.

This is no surprise as the ratio of men to women on college campuses has been shrinking for a long time.

Correct. It's really that simple.

So now we can have men’s groups and societies right?

It’s not just they are qualified. They are WELL qualified. Every woman I know who got into my medical school had higher A’s than I did. Women will kill it when it comes to studying for college. (My daughter is a college sophomore and her lowest grade in a class so far is a 98).

The problem is that once they are mid 20’s and older.....
1. Babies happen.
2. Parents start aging and need help
3. Husbands start trying to advance their career.

And women look for less hours to work. Almost every time. I am not calling women lazy. It’s not that at all. It’s their hearts. They can’t tolerate their closest family not being happy. Men are more selfish. Which means harder work and better community service.

Wife and I know one married couple (wife is an Oncologist and husband is a consultant). She makes 500% more than him but she cut back her hours when he was offered a higher pay for more travel. She told my wife she’s was happy to do so because he loves his work.

My daughter graduated in May and one classmate graduated with a 3.3 GPA and below avg MCAT and was accepted by every med school she applied to. Another friend had a 3.9GPA and very good MCAT, not accepted. The one accepted everywhere, female from Kenya, the other was a white male from Colorado. But there is no discrimination in the process, lol

Seen it thousand times

Instead of “wait-listed”, your Colorado baw got “white listed

I had a 29 MCAT, 3.5 GPA and worked in an ER 30-60 hours a week for 3 years during college and didn't get in my first time. A friend with a 3.2 GPA, 25 MCAT and a Indian vagina was accepted over me

And it doesn’t stop at med school.

One of my good friends was applying for Ortho. He was AOA, good dude, great letters, white guy.

He got an interview at Harvard. Their secretary emailed all the applicants interview info, and accidentally attached an excel file with all the interviewees info. Whooops. It had everything: name, dob, address, gender, race, grades, boards scores, etc etc.

The black women who were invited for interviews had boards scores 1 standard deviation lower than the white and Asian guys.

The annoying thing about news like this is certain groups will still act like they are being as underrepresented as back in the 70s

Oh it’s you again

How many female physicians retire early or end up part time? I’m sure you will dodge that question. We have a physician shortage in this country so it’s an important question.

Female physicians marry other highly educated partners, so they usually don’t need to work to live. Once they have kids the go part time or retire. Same with female lawyers. These are just facts.

But carry on calling people out without any substance, im used to it

ETA: and I’m not trying to say we shouldn’t have female physicians. I’m just saying selecting medical students simply because they are female could have other consequences.

Idk.....the woman has smaller fingers. You could argue the small fingers puts her at an advantage in doing heart surgery in a small child.

Why would I care about the size of their fingers, when I can go to the doctor using the robot for the surgery?

This is 100% true. So everyone needs to ask themselves, do you care about the color of your doctor or do you want the doctor with the best scores and best resume?

Race shouldn’t even be on their excel sheet. Why is it there? What does it tell them that is useful?

It’s pure, 100% ACTUAL racism what these schools are doing.

If the only admission criteria were grades and test scores, every entering class would be 100% Asians with 4.0 GPAs and a 521+ MCAT. Harvard, Caltech, Stanford and other highly selective programs have been dealing with the issue of achieving diversity meaning other than Asian in entering classes for some time.

Why the hell do you care if they want work/life balance? With the exception of a few different specialties, it’s not like your doctor is someone you expect to be able to call at all hours of the night. If they want fewer hours, they can take fewer patients. I’ve never understood this brainwashed mindset that employees need to work 65 hour weeks to be valuable. If she can work fewer hours and still afford to pay off those loans, then let her.

This is fairly accurate. We need to build a wall to keep them out.

If all else are equal, and you 10/10 choose the man, is that not the exact issue that they complain about?

So what? Are they the best candidates? That’s all that matters. Not every system needs diversity for the sake of diversity. People can have diversity in their church group, at the saints game, or at the mall. Forcing diversity into an endless subset of categories is a pointless and damagaing policy

When does it stop?

A category is just an arbitrary assignment. So right now it’s “this medical school class is not diverse enough”. That can continue on endlessly into smaller in smaller categories. This city isn’t diverse enough.... this block isn’t diverse enough.... this building isn’t diverse enough... the person sleeping next to you isn’t diverse enough

Where does the practicing of forced diversity stop?
