re: Folks who don't buy an extended warranty are asking for it...

Wheel and tire warranty has been a good product for me. Extended warranty on a European car doesn't make sense as you won't keep it out of the manufacturer's warranty period.

There are exceptions of course, but for the most part, you need that fricking warranty. The technology on vehicles today is out of control
Soooo, what you are saying, is that they should make the cars better today AND offer a longer warranty than previously. Got it

We bought the extra warranty on the "infotainment" in our new ride. That's all I got.
Mine has been replaced twice with only a small deductible paid. My extended warranty has more than paid for itself.

The problem is that extended warranties are like insurance. The company will fight claims and nickel and dime at every opportunity.
The concept of an extended warranty isn’t bad. The industry has a bad reputation that is well deserved.

Sounds like you need to stop buying GMC’s

I’ve never bought an extended warranty and never attend to

I paid for my 80 thousand dollar truck in cash. If it breaks I will pay for repairs in cash. If it can't be repaired, I will buy another truck for cash.

They would not sell warranties, if they lost money on them. Let that sink in.
My baw...it's the law of averages though.
Just like insurance. You hope you never have to use it, they hope you never have to use it, but if you are the baw that ends up needing it?
You priced a powertrain repair recently?
I used to be in your boat but with the rising costs of EVERYTHING I've changed my mind.
I'm a ways off from being able to afford something new, but when I do you best believe it's going to have a stout warranty and full coverage.
I've been burned and people I know have been burned by shills like Carmax and shady used lots.
I'd rather not need it and have it than the alternative. Because then you are throwing good money at bad at some point. I can't imagine saving a few thousand on a used vehicle and not getting a warranty with it. They want way too much for used with none of the benefits anymore.

work has over 30 company vehicles and would never buy warranties on them when planning to keep for 5 years which puts vehicle out of warranty before they will trade in. well it took ONE bad apple for them to now have extended warranty bought before vehicle is delivered.
Extended warranties cost up to several thousand dollars. So you are saying a company was brought to its' knees with one bad vehicle?

the warranty is a money maker for them
Wait, you think they're making money on a product they sell? You don't say? Also, you say they discounted the warranty from 4k to $600? Lol yeah, no...

How much did you pay for that extended warranty?
Not nearly $5800. I win.

I save all the money that I would have spent on warranties for when something actually breaks. Then I pay for it with cash. Guess who is winning, me or the warranty company?
I can tell you with the last Ford F150 I purchased the warranty paid for itself many times over. I probably had 5-6 warranty claims for various computer boards that went out and a leaky sun roof.
"Guess who is winning, me or the warranty company?"

I drive a 2007 Tundra and paying for an extended warranty would have been a 100% waste of money.

Her A/C also just went out (for the 2nd time) and the dealership wants $5500 to fix it.
Never use the dealership once the warranty is gone.

This is a ridiculously-bad take. Over the years I've bought close to ten new vehicles and all sorts of other items, many of them being or containing relatively high-tech electronics. I almost always keep vehicles a fairly long time, well after their regular warranties expire. I've never bought an extended warranty on a vehicle, and only very rarely on anything else. I've never regretted that.
If you buy crap vehicles, maybe it's a different story. But if you refuse to buy vehicles except from manufacturers that have a longstanding, across-their-models record of reasonable reliability, the odds that buying an extended warranty will work out financially well for you are low.
But hey, you do you.

I have Autoexcel for my Genesis and just had the dealership take care of a bad fuel pump and sending unit as well as valve cover leaks. $1400 in shop labor and parts cost me $100.00. No hassle and everything handled between the dealership and the warranty company.
Starter went out 2 years ago and again, $100.00 for $1000 dealership shop labor and parts.
I paid $3000 for a 5 yr 60,000 bumper to bumper. Car had 98,000 when I bought it.

Why would he spend $80k on a truck?
Probably paying a $1500 car note too.
