I am blown away any lawyer would have ever approved this type of training...or any supervisors.

Why weren't they using simulation or training/paintball rounds out of specifically made for training weapons (I.e. blue guns)?

By the way- what are the odds anyone gets convicted of any crime over this?

I say zero.

Meanwhile how many people go to jail every year when they accidentally discharge a gun and kill their friend/family member?

I guess I could understand shooting blanks for certain types of training, but surely the fake blue gun would have sufficed for the senior citizen group.

My brother is a co-owner of a shooting range, and they have authentic looking glocks that can only chamber special blanks. They look and feel real, but can't shoot actual bullets.

But how are they going to do a simulation with no bang?

Well that actually brings up a good question....was they guy actually trying to shoot blanks (aka simply a real bullet with no projectile) or like a snap cap type deal which is no powder, projectile, etc.

I mean hell a real blank can still hurt somebody at short ranges. I just assumed they were using snap caps and that whoever wrote the article didn't know the difference.

You'll be surprised by this but last week I got to see active shooter drills by a "local" police department for a school. The LEO all had blue guns (replica glocks and m-4s) full of paintball rounds and were wearing masks to make sure they could see at the end of the day.

Amazingly no one got killed even after many rounds were fired. Granted there's probably a night and day difference between NYPD and the Florida local yokels, but it does make me wonder why other jurisdictions don't do this.

The one you attended makes perfect sense. I can't wrap my head around how any department thought this one was a good idea. I'm hoping it comes out that this article came from the Onion. I just can't believe it.

This is the problem.

Incompetent cops are the problem. Not always a racial agenda or even malicious intent.. just idiots making life and death decisions. I understand this was some sort of training.. but how can this error even begin to happen.

Why even fire a blank at a person in training.

And why wouldn't you first fire it elsewhere just to make sure.

I would be making so many precautions. This is absurd.

so you would volunteer for this without making 100% certain the gun is loaded with blanks?
No. I wouldn't want my daughter to wear a slutty dress to a bar either, but if she did and got raped, I wouldn't be out here saying, "well, she shouldn't have worn that dress, she should take some responsibility."

Would you tell your daughter to share some of the blame?

Should not be using real guns in role playing no matter what.

Unreal. Hope all departments learn from this.

I have to think the officer will get charged with manslaughter and plead down or something but doubtful he gets jail time.

Alright everybody calm down. It was an accident. We all have accidents and make mistakes in one form or another. Also, the lady was 73. She didn't really have that much longer anyway. Her friends and family have had her for 73 years. That's more than a lot of folks so seems like there isn't much loss there

Look, we all know you are police, so tell me you're being facetious cuz that's a f*cked up way to look at it

getting raped is the same thing as someone being negligent and accidentally killing you?
