I still don't get how anyone can agree to be shot with blanks without making certain they are being shot with blanks.
Yeah I agree, this falls on the woman on some level.

Alright everybody calm down. It was an accident. We all have accidents and make mistakes in one form or another. Also, the lady was 73. She didn't really have that much longer anyway. Her friends and family have had her for 73 years. That's more than a lot of folks so seems like there isn't much loss there
You'd be singing a different tune if it were your mother.

so you would volunteer for this without making 100% certain the gun is loaded with blanks?

What is the first thing you do if I hand you a gun and tell you it isn't loaded?
1) Drop Mag
2) Rack the slide/bolt carrier a few times to make sure all chambered rounds eject
3) Lock slide/bolt carrier back
4) Physically and visually inspect chamber for a round.
Every...single...time...no matter the circumstances

Personally no I wouldn't let anyone do this to me....if I had no choice and the opportunity to inspect the firearm...I'd inspect the firearm. I'd certainly ask to inspect it no matter what....but I agree to expect a person that isn't accustomed to firearms to do that in this situation may be a bit crazy.

someone that doesn't know anything about firearms would most likely be more cautious...I would think

I was told by this very board that we should respect the police and listen to whatever they say. If they say the gun has blanks, then the gun has blanks. No reason to ever question them.

Exactly.
Even if someone says, "It's fine. I put blanks in it."
OK, fine. I'm still gonna check.
It's lie breathing. It is automatic.

a simple no would have sufficed...but sarcasm is best when backed into a corner with a question you can't win with

She assumed that people who handle firearms are trained professionals.

I mean all of your post in this thread have been about the woman, not the people who she obviously trusted her shooting her dead by their own mistake.
