In hindsight all of these people can say what they should/would have done, but I seriously doubt people would do more than ask if it was safe. Once the cop says yes, who is going to question otherwise?

As the shooter I wouldn't feel comfortable performing this exercise knowing 100% that there were blanks in the gun, loaded myself, much less if someone else loaded the gun for me.

Now you blame a population for being too trusting and compliant of police officers?

I am a strong supporter of being compliant with officers in the field but in no way does that mean trust them with your life in a situation like this.

I am blown away any lawyer would have ever approved this type of training...or any supervisors.

Trout would do a full safety inspection of the firearm and ammunition, ask to see the officer's qualifications, wear a bulletproof vest and record the incident for posterity's sake.

Because that is what an intelligent person would do. If not, well you're just not intelligent.

Blue Lives Matter

We need to support police now more than ever.

Police are flawless and have never made a mistake due to prejudice or just general stupidity.

I agree with all this, but you're stirring shite with the rest of your posts.

call me paranoid or a pussy but no way I am letting anyone shoot at me until I see the gun fired proving to me they are blanks

So he's not wrong there....I think most folks trained on and familiar with firearms would do that. I know I would.

However, like i said to expect that of someone that is not trained on or familiar with firearms is probably a stretch.

This is the correct response
Performing a "what if" type exercise without being 100% sure no live rounds existed can't be their policy.

This. How does a trained police officer, or really, ANYONE WITH KNOWLEDGE OF FIREARMS, not know they loaded the gun with live ammo?

I also think there has to be a prop gun that fires blanks, and blanks only for this type of training.

If you have to do that exercise (pointing a weapon at a live person and pulling the trigger) then this is the only way to do it.

I've taken 3 CHP clases in LA now and in each one the first thing that we did was made damn sure that no one in the class had any ammo in the classroom portion and made damn sure that all the instructors guns (if they weren't blue guns) were all clear of any rounds.

I guess I could understand shooting blanks for certain types of training, but surely the fake blue gun would have sufficed for the senior citizen group.

Or if you have to point the real gun at a live person and pull the trigger...why not even just dry fire. That takes all possibility of this out of the equation because before the class starts you could simply check the room for no ammo and make sure the gun is 100% clear.
