Need to make an example out of this guy.
2 weeks paid leave so he can sit in his room and think about what he's done.

Maybe you should go to jail in his place since you feel so strongly about it. That was the stupidest most negligent act a person could pull. They all deserve jail time and maybe these civilian volunteers will think twice in the future before allowing a bunch of morons with guns to play cowboys and Indians with them.

Lol, dumbass. We don't even know if the guy loaded his own weapon, if blanks were mixed in with regular ammo, and how the scenario was set up. Obviously if he loaded his own fun and killed the woman, that changes things and is probably manslaughter. If he did not load his own gun, it's on the person that did.

What the frick happened to rule number 1. Never point a gun at anything you don't intend to kill.

Clearly you didn't read the headline.

As far as I'm concerned, the person firing the gun is completely responsible for knowing what is loaded in that gun.

Who in the hell uses a gun they didn't load themselves?

This x 1000. As the ex-marine instructor told my wife and I at our handgun class, "There are no accidents with guns, only negligence."

I don't give two shits if he loaded his own gun or not.

Wow. When and where do we report for the looting?

Are we back to hating cops yet

what if the problem was with the blanks/bullets and how they were marked?

Blanks look a lot different from an actual round.

This almost sounds too stupid to possibly be real. How does something so ridiculous happen? Heads need to roll.

Regardless of what anyone says it was a negligent discharge...the trigger wasn't accidentally pulled...it was pulled on purpose. Certainly the outcome wasn't intended, but I've been taught from as far back as I can remember handling guns to not point the damn thing at something you aren't willing to shoot/kill. Any time I pick up any gun from an AR, to a 1911, to a damn water gun that thought is the first thing that goes through my mind. If police officers don't at least have that level of safety in them then that is a problem.
If you are going to do these real life "training scenarios" with real guns (as opposed to blue guns or something like that) why even have blanks/snap caps in them? I get the damage to the gun angle from dry firing, but on modern service pistols that is a relatively low risk from what I understand (I'm no gunsmith for sure though but I've dry fired my Glock a bunch...my 1911 not so much

I still don't get how anyone can agree to be shot with blanks without making certain they are being shot with blanks.

How the frick do you not check and double check that you don't have live rounds in the gun?
