State regulators and insurance experts all say it's because of the legislation passed a couple of years ago to curb frivolous lawsuits. Insurance carriers are now saving hundreds of millions of dollars a year in legal bills and are including those savings in their rate requests.

So far this year, ten carriers have filed a zero percent increase with the state, and nine now have filed for decreases. But your own renewal policy could go up or down.

Other positive news for insurance in Florida overall is that eight new insurance companies have come into the market, creating more competition and major insurers that left the state are in serious talks about returning.

But but it’s the evil insurance companies….

Or maybe they made it easier for the companies to deny otherwise legitimate claims and screw their customers over...

Well, we live in a cesspool of Plaintiff lawyers whose lobby is probably the strongest in the nation, we don’t have to worry about tort reform legislation cracking down on frivolous lawsuits.

Multiple people on this board have said that doesn’t have anything to do with it.

Talk to anyone in the Lake Charles area about getting screwed over by insurers on Hurricane damage claims...

People aren’t stupid.

You can turn on the TV and watch attorneys battling for those big checks. You can drive down the interstate and see all the billboards and lush attorney headquarters.

The attorneys are getting richer and richer and rates keep going up to feed them.

Agreed. I’ve always said legitimate claims are the ones where the injured person turns down a hospital visit on the day of the accident only to visit a doctor after they see a lawyer. And proceeds to go to the chiropractor for six months like it’s their job. That’s a good claim.

Louisiana’s problem is 100% our laws. Our laws allow the lawsuits. Until lawmakers change the laws, insurance rates cannot and will not go down.

Ugh, you do realize the article is about homeowner's insurance right?
