I live in Florida. My insurance is still ridiculously high.

Mine doubled this past year but I am hoping it will remain the same next year or go down. Fingers crossed

Tort reform does nothing to lower rates. Louisiana is a prime example.

Calling something “tort reform” doesn’t make it so.

It's always been trash judges, bad juries, and uneducated populace hitting insurers with bad faith verdicts.

Judges are the worst, pay attention and vote the Plaintiff friendly ones out.

I’m guessing accident lawyers lobby to crooked Louisiana politicians who benefit from not regulating it….

Talk to anyone in the Lake Charles area about getting screwed over by insurers on Hurricane damage claims...

Funny thing about insurance claims. It helps to pay for the coverage that you want to make a claim for.

I’ve always been torn with the rise of NIL contracts with players. If LSU wins another natty it will be directly attributed to our culture of ambulance chasing attorney’s that are funding our team. Wish we could find a way to have our cake and eat it too.

Amazing what common sense can accomplish

After a quick search, it looks like Florida reduced their statute of limitations from four years to two, moved to modified comparative negligence from pure, allowed medical bills to be admissible at trial, and established that negligence on the part of insurer does not constitute bad faith and there’s a presumption against bad faith if they pay out within 90 days of the claim being made.

Louisiana is already at one year for car accidents and a max of two years for other types of claims. And considering the information disparity, I think the change in bad faith claims is simply bad law.

So the only thing we could/should potentially mimic is moving from pure comparative negligence to modified.

But sure, Florida is just light years ahead of us in the common sense tort reform category, apparently

People and shite claims are a big reason insurance is so high. If you don’t believe that, you are just fooling yourself.

People here drive like fricking maniacs, and at high speed. That along with the constant claims due to crashes are a big reason the insurance
Is so high.

It’s the common gripe on this board when tort reform gets brought up, mainly from plaintiffs attorneys if I had to guess,

Well I’ve seen several advertisements for campaign fundraisers for judges and all are HEAVILY sponsored by plaintiffs attorneys. You really don’t have to be a genius to question why that is apparently above board activity.

Maximum campaign contribution for a district court judge is $2,500. Most people just don’t give enough of a shite to get involved. That’s why you rarely, if ever, see splashy TV ads for judicial races. It’s mostly yard signs and card stock mailers, with a smattering of social media adverts. Judicial races are, relatively speaking, low cost affairs.

Has it actually gone down? Most things never go back, may slow down, but inflation is still a huge part of most bills these days.
