The fatties cried tears of crisco.

Haven't seen them since.
But all but one flavor was overrated anyway.

"Would you know my name,
If I got you Hubig's in Heaven?"
Goose and Harry Lee are probably having some right now:

On the way into work the morning of that fire, I cleaned out the Winn Dixie of their Hubig's. If I had known that they were not coming back, I should have sold the bastards on E-bay.

This is why the world sucks right now.
You mean to tell me there's not one motherfricker out there who wants to make some money baking pies? That have instant name recognition, a guaranteed marketing splash on market entry, and a loyal customer base?
I guess we're too busy trying to figure out how to microchip employees and scam old people with robocalls.
It's fricking criminal that this brand isn't up and running again.

I'm surprised they didn't build a factory in Nola East on cheap land, and developed their Marigny property. They'd sell a ton, and make a lot of money.

We had an open order with them to supply a display of Hubigs at our wedding when the fire happened..
the person we were in contact with actually gave us hope that they would be up and running again soon, thanks to generous donations from the local community.
Then they suddenly vanished.. i'm assuming with the money that people donated

were the Haydel's copy cat pies worth a shite?

The family fought over control of the company which delayed and eventually cancelled construction. They collected a ton of money from the community that was never accounted for.

All that money went to attorney's fees.

Most people think so. They sell the hell out of them all over southeast La.
The owners of Hubigs were dumbasses for not getting back in the game. People love the old Nola stuff and for years, lots of people were asking them to re-open.
Couldn't get over themselves to stop infighting within the family.
If someone tried to take over the name and open back up, it would be hard. Real estate is expensive and buying all of the new equipment would be a lot.
So guess what would happen when the new group would start charging double what the old pies were? Lots of bitching and moaning.

We should be best friends.
So true, though. How the frick has no one taken this and run with it? Certainly, when Tom Benson was looking for NOLA companies to breathe life back into, Hubig's had to be brought up...right?

I thought hubigs ran into blow back from the city with permits and all when they tried to come back a few years ago?

Quite the opposite.
As I understand from the mutiplicity of news articles on the subject over the last five years, one half of the family WANTED to re-open ASAP, and the other was fighting for money or something.
The City somehow or other made land available in the same neighborhood, on Press St. as I recall, around NOCCA. If they didn't provide the land, they made some zoning adjustments and whatever else necessary for them to build a bakery there.
I am surmising that this particular deal has run its course or expired. Nothing has happened since.
Haydel's Hand Pies are, according to them, are/were from a recipe they've had since the early 1960s and had stopped making. I've never had one, but I understand they are baked, not fried. All I've heard over and over on social media is that they're inferior. Of course they're at a bit of a disadvantage because they're NOT Hubig's, although the Haydel bakers do have cache in New Orleans.
