That may be my first memory also. I was about 3.5 at the time. I guess it was a big deal.

I was about 3 1/2 years old, my Mom and Dad were at The dentist that day,and me and my brother and sister, were in our den watching TV with our baby sitter.

All of the sudden, the whole house and everything in it turned upside down and inside out. An 18 wheeler driver had a heart attack and died while he was driving,he came off the road and hit our house.

He missed the room where we were all at, by about 5 feet, but the floors and walls all collapsed, and the place was totally destroyed.

My Mom and Dad had stopped someplace to eat lunch,so nobody could contact them(no cell phones then),the first clue they had about anything, they were coming upon the scene.

I remember them running up there crying, and none of us were hurt even a bit. Us kids got anything we wanted for a quite a few days, I still kick myself for not asking for a Vette or something.

Sitting in one of those wicker bowl shaped chairs, or tearing into and spilling a one pound bag of rice my mom had sat on the floor while putting up groceries. Not sure which was first. ~2-3 years old

Probably burying a goldfish when I was around 10. It gets spotty until like 15, then less spotty until 32. I can remember like 60% from high school until now.

While I have bit and pieces here and there about my childhood, I remember my 5th birthday the best. I had a Super Mario Bros. 2 cake.

Remember exactly where I was at when it was announced. We were sitting in our boat in Madisonville waiting for the bridge to open so we could go to the lake. My Dad and brother had walked to badeaux's to get us some burgers while we waited and we heard it on the radio. They didn't believe us when we told them.

I remember being an infant being cradled in someone's arms outside at night seeing one of the sputniks go overhead. I was born in late June.
I have other random very early memories.

In my crib looking down at our dawg named "Piper" who died when I was 18 months old.

Kennedy was in the White House.

Some other sadder stuff right after that.

It's a gift that keeps on giving.

2 years and some months. Kidney disease, nearly fatal, nephrotic syndrome, on steroids, surgery. 2 story house, I stayed upstairs with a young 20-something aunt. Mom and Dad downstairs. Aunt waited tables at Fridays at Cortana Mall (Fun Fair Park was obviously there), we lived on Evangeline, 70805 circa 1983. 70805 was still blue collar Redemptorist kids and Exxon dads. I went septic and collapsed. Mom and Dad are downstairs, I couldn't cry out. When aunt made it home, I was rushed to Tulane in NOLA because my kidney disease doctor was there. I remember laying on the bathroom floor. At 2.5 years old. The wallpaper was terrible, yellow and grassy. It made me think of Curious George.

You've had a tough childhood. Was it shooting heroin or smoking crack that sent you to the hospital?
