The frick? It wasn't that bad. They've gotten really good.
My procedure went perfectly and after 2 1/2 weeks I was still having stomach pain and discomfort. It took me three weeks to walk without pain and discomfort.

Post vasectomy chronic epididymitis is definitely way more common than people are led to believe. Usually doctors say rare (e.g. 1 in 1000) or very rare (e.g. 1 in 10,000) but the real chances are more like 1 in 50.
Consider posting your story to www.reddit.com/r/postvasectomypain where there is a collection of several hundred examples.
Another complication that doctors will flat out deny exists but which many men do report happening is reduced sensation during sex and an unsatisfying orgasm.

Certainly had that as well, but again has resolved now 7 years past the procedure.

I was back playing racquetball on the third day. No issues if you use the frozen peas as directed.

eta: I didn't know they knock you out now for the procedure.....I was awake the whole time but didn't feel a thing.
This isn't normal and it's not worth the effort. It's literally the easiest "surgery" to just get up and walk away from. I did mine on July 3rd and was out walking around during July 4th festivities the next day without issue.
I will say, I absolutely recommend taking it easy and getting as much bed rest as you can for a couple of days. Also, schedule in colder months. If you get out and about in warm temps after surgery, ball sweat is not a great thing for your incision(s).

Did you have to get referred by your GP or did you go straight to the urologist?

I just had one about a week ago. Two words, jock strap.
I really wish I had one right away but it took 4 days of pain and discomfort before coming across a recommendation for one online.

Go get a couple bags of sonic ice and use that instead of frozen peas. The peas will thaw too quickly relative to ice. You want to use sonic ice because it is similar in shape to peas, i.e. form fitting.

My doc said as the procedure starts "So...what line of work you in DSD?" I gave him the "do you job" stare. He chuckled and said "some guys like to chat, you are not one." Pretty easy deal all together. Out a few days. Binged Breaking Bad and downed every last pain killer. Done on Thursday, back to the office Monday. Helped a relative move the next weekend.

Yes. You will always remember that needle in the “banus” to deaden the area and the smell of the burning scrote when they cauterize the snipped area.
And, do exactly what they say about resting, using ice packs, and binding the sack and not let it dangle.
Thank me later!

Wear the jockstrap.
Use the peas.
Get a few bags of peas so you don't have to wait for them to refreeze.
Plus they eventually get squishy.

Had mine in 1994. Copay was 10 bucks. Jerked off 8 hours after I had it done because I listened to a dumbass coworker who told me it was going to hurt next time I came. Wrong. Don’t listen to horror stories. I’ve had shoes that hurt worse.
Are you saying you would have jacked off sooner than 8 hours after your surgery?

It took 7 years for sex to feel normal again?

Any advice?
frozen corn, peas, etc... follow their directions... take it easy the rest of that day, and the day after, at least.... clean the pipes as soon as you can...
worst part, IMO, was having to bring back the 2 specimens that they check to make sure you are sterile... the procedure was nothing.... and i was back to normal in 2 days, with only ibuprofen, so it's really not that bad...
