Best investment you will ever make. Calculate the 20 year cost of another kid. After the frozen peas, go buy a boat, and you will still come out ahead.

I had mine the friday before the 2006 US Open. Watched Phil Mickelson have a jean van de velde like meltdown. could have bogied the last hole and won. Vasectomy is the best money i've ever spent. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Had mine in 1994. Copay was 10 bucks. Jerked off 8 hours after I had it done because I listened to a dumbass coworker who told me it was going to hurt next time I came. Wrong. Don’t listen to horror stories. I’ve had shoes that hurt worse.

I get a kick out of guys who get all squeamish and make faces at this topic. Hell I got the doc to prop me up so I could watch the procedure. Mind you I'd had a valium an hour prior but I found the process interesting.
Echo the usual, frozen peas, become one with your recliner for a couple days and take it easy a couple more, and make damn sure to follow up on your labs with two negative sperm counts before getting back to business.
Check your insurance carrier too - some will pay for it fully since it's way cheaper than paying for childbirth.

My doc recommended against peas stating they do not last as long as a bag of ice

I just used multiple bags of peas and rotated them into action from the freezer. Besides our icemaker makes those halfmoon shapes and I wasn't fond of those pointy corners getting near my recently sliced jewels.

congratulations on becoming a woman

Had it done years ago right in the Drs. Office. Went home and chilled for a few days and got back to my normal routine, but was restricted to not lift anything heavy for a week or so.
It is well worth the peace of mind getting it done, especially if your Mrs. has issues with forms of birth control designed for women.
Just do the follow up stuff to make sure everything is cut and you are shooting blanks, but it is pretty foolproof now.

It really isn't a big deal. You'll be a little sore for a few days.
I only had a local anesthetic and the doc put the classic rock Pandora station on. I read the news on my phone during the procedure.

It's next to nothing don't sweat it.
But your wife will be far more interested in your junk than she normally would be. They are nursing by nature.

Did you have to get referred by your GP or did you go straight to the urologist?

The procedure itself is nothing, I did mine on a Wednesday the week of the British Open. Since my sleep was jacked I just watched golf and laid in bed with a ice packs on my balls. I drove myself home from the clinic.
I had issues for about 3 years post vasectomy with epididymitis. It's way more common than led to believe, it hurts like hell, but antibiotics typically knock it out in a week, once or twice I needed two weeks worth. It got to the point where I didn't even need an office visit from my urologist to get a script, he'd just call it in.
It's been about 7 years now since mine, knock on wood (no pun) I haven't had a flare up in about 2 years and hope that my body has finally adjusted to the procedure. We started late on making babies so the slight discomfort was better than raising kids into my 60's.

Dont go to a doc that is near retirement.
Had it done by an older doc. I took the sample in (waited a couple of weeks longer than doc said) and..test came back positive....so his office said redo in a month....waited 6 wks and retested...results came back positive again. Nurse said give another month and if still positive then we would talk about alternative measures(no idea what those would be!) Anyway...wait another month and i go in to get the sample cup and paperwork...find out my original doc has been retired for 3 months and the new doc looks at my results and said im good to go.
Now, im a bit paranoid...i was one of the old docs last patients apparently. Was he fully invested in the procedure or counting down the days. Is the new doc just...im not getting paid for this....old doc is gone. "You are good to go"
