Filming live events. Will it ever end?

I get the initial reaction and want to capture a great moment in the beginning of the smart phone era. We’re nearly 20 years in at this point.
When will people realize they’re not going to go home and watch some shakey video from far away vs enjoying the moment they’re in? Was at the US Open over the weekend and still amazed at every break or match point, 60% of people pull their phone out and start videoing.
When will this end? Talk to me OT fam!

People don't care about actually seeing the event; they want the attention on social media for being there.

Dementia is a real thing bro. You're going to wish you had the videos.

People only go to events to show on the socials that they were there. They don’t really care

I did grab a couple left behind Honey Deuce glasses for collecting.

I don't know how people enjoy concerts and sporting events when they are filming instead
Some might be using the glasses these days

I don’t mind it because I don’t really care but I think it’s especially crazy to see when you watch like a WWE match or a UFC event and there is the overhead camera shot of the person entering, and everybody has their cell phones out

Went to Bob Dylan’s concert in NOLA 2 years ago and everyone in the audience was given a case to put their phone in that had a lock on it. After the show was over the ushers unlocked it on the way out. It was pretty awesome to have everyone just enjoy Bob Dylan’s obscure set list without filming it.

Anyone sharing something on social media that was broadcast on television is completely braindead

The same reason every MLB playoff game, World Series game, college national championship game in the late 80s and 90s would blind you with camera flashes on the first pitch, opening kickoff. People want a record of being there and maybe share it with people in the future.

I especially enjoy seeing people videoing fireworks shows

When I go to something like a concert these days, I let myself video a couple of things and then I make a conscious effort to put my phone away and enjoy the concert in the moment.

What year is it?
I see people complaining about this more on message boards than I see it in real life anymore. The novelty of being able to record everything on a phone wore off for most people a few years back. It's nice being able to go to concerts again without seeing phones in the air the whole time.

I'm surprised he wasn't playing in the US Open.

I see both sides
I have some pretty awesome videos of plays at lsu games and a few 3 minute videos from concerts. Phone cameras and mics are a lot better than they used to be
