I just take everything out of the bottom and push it out of the opening with a couple of paper towels.

If a green egg, get the little ash shovel. It latches onto the vent slide and catches the ash with little mess.

I have that ash tool. Just put it in the "fire box," pull and that sweet ash is all yours.

Hijack, bought a super cheap offset smoker for this summer. Been wanting a green egg. But, putting it out there for those looking at this thread. What's the best deal. Not looking for bare minimum pricing, but don't want to spend 1200 if it's not needed.

I have a kamado joe. It just has an ash tray. Remove and dump.
It's certainly not the "cheap" route.
Sorry you overpaid for an inadequate kamado. lol

Why'd not use the ash tool that's made for this? Takes me 10 seconds to scoop out the ash into a dust pan

I use a small plastic cup and occasionally hose it out. Gets the shite out you can't reach...

why would you waste your money on one of these?

Guess I'm too lazy / too impatient / too not caring enough how the grill "should be", which causes me to just stick with a gas grill.

Nothing wrong with that. I kept my gas grill for a while after. But as I got better and better on the kamado, I started using it less and less until it was just sitting there

Big greeen egg for the win. I clean it, take it apart, and suck the ashes out with a shop vac. Total process takes about 5 minutes (minus the burn for the clean) and it looks almost brand new every time. Buddy of mine has the kamado and he is mad he didn't go for the egg and says there is a difference.

I promise you can get equal results from a Weber kettle and a Slow N Sear.
