I don't believe any of them are this stupid. This is to fill their coffers. The inflation bit is just the talking point for the retards that vote for them. Let the useful idiots argue against logic on their behalf.

I doubt this will lower the gas prices, the higher the price of the gas the more money they will get from this surtax

It would have a negative impact on supply and provide upward pressure on pricing.

Inflation is born when aggregate demand exceeds aggregate supply. More money is chasing fewer goods.

Treat the problem by reducing, NOT increasing, aggregate demand.

Options floated in article increase aggregate demand:
1. Lowering price (via rebate)
2. Capping price (Russian oil)

And deter supply (21% windfall tax)

Meanwhile Fed is reducing money supply and reducing purchasing power via higher Fed fund rates to commercial
Banks. Fed is reducing aggregate demand while Govt is increasing it.

Everyone chase your tail like your life depends upon catching it.

This is how you make oil EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE and ensure that nothing new in the way of refining capacity gets built ever.

They don't even have to pass it. All they have to do is talk about it and investors are scared away.

I’d love to hear what their definition of “excessive” is and how they would calculate that.

in 2023 we’ll be using the same meme and swapping out “inflation” for “recession”

then the media will scream, “why hasn’t the Republican House and Senate fixed inflation/recession.”

They are doubling down on stupid

The energy companies hold the cards

If the admin had a better attitude toward energy, we could expand oil production and lower the cost of living for millions of Americans

Instead they kick them in the balls and expect roses in exchange
