If you like local dives, go to the Broken Spoke. I'm there all too often. The Standard is good for real cocktails, and Tips Up is a weird combo of college kids and tourists.
If you're at the actual mountain and not the meadows, go to Scissor Bill's.

Interesting. I wrote off Bend as uber liberal too. I thought I read that the riots there last summer were pretty heavy, but maybe I read wrong. But now that I think about it it didn’t seem too bad when I visited. Maybe I was just assuming it was like Eugene and Portland.
Bend and Chattanooga are the two towns I’m deciding between. How do these two towns compare?
There weren't any riots that I'm aware of. There was a couple of BLM marches/protests or whatever, but there was probably less than 50 people at either of them. I'm pretty sure that Chattanooga had them too.
I grew up in Chattanooga and lived there until I moved 4 years ago. Unless you are into Winter sports, they are pretty similar towns. Chattanooga is three or four times bigger but the traffic seems worse in Bend.
Bend is supposed to be a "foodie" town but, aside from pizza and burgers, I really hate the food here and have pretty much given up on trying new places. Chattanooga kills them there. The scenery in Bend is incredible and the people here are really friendly.
Before I left Chattanooga, it seemed like there was a lot of people moving there from all over the country that liked to call it "Chatty Town" and "The Noog".
Please don't call it that if you move there, unless you want to stick out like a sore thumb.

Easily Telluride, CO. Second place is NE Montana around Flathead Lake.

Bend is pretty hipster but still a really cool town in terms of layout, things to do and landscape. I could live just about anywhere as long as people keep their personal politics and sexual preferences to themselves.
I enjoy Chattanooga and Asheville too but have never encountered marches or blocked roadways.

It’s a cool place, but not really a mountain town in the traditional sense.
Telluride, CO is just about perfect. Whitefish, MT is cools as well, though I’ve heard it’s kind of the new Jackson Hole for the wealthy.
Closer to home, Highlands, Brevard, and Sylva, NC are up there.
