Yes, and stand outside.
You let your young son go into a mens room a lone?

What exactly are you trying to fight about. I offered advice to someone asking a legit question.
Letting your young child be alone in either is the legit worst advice in this thread.

Use Men's room if no family room. Since this is the OT, I tell her to stand outside and I go in and whip anyone's arse who won't leave so she can have the bathroom to herself

She goes into the men's room with me. I stand outside of her stall and wait till she is done.
I have gone into the woman's room once or twice when there was no stalls in the men's room. The few times I have done that, the ladies are more than ok with it when they see her with me.

So you're one of the people who probably show up at the airport like its their first day on earth. No clue how to do anything alone.
Also, the OP could ask the child's parents how they handle these situations so the child isn't thrown into a whole different bathroom situation then how they currently handle it.

Cover eyes, bring into mens bathroom and stand in the stall with her. Cover eyes wash hands and leave

Neat. Doesn't change that you gave the actual worst advice in this thread.

That young I took my daughter into a stall in the men's restroom with me. She's 8 now so she goes in the women's restroom and I wait outside.

When mine was younger, she'd go in the ladies room and I'd stand near the door. When she was super little, we'd go in the joint bathroom and I'd face the door. It's really not that big of a deal no matter what you choose. Don't stress.

I just took mine into the men's bathroom with me.
I would do this when my daughter was little, especially at LSU football games when wife was not there. The women's line would be 10 miles long. I would just pick her up and have her bury her head on my shoulder or throw a jacket on her and get her in and into a stall. Worked like a charm. No hour long wait, no accidents, no standing outside the door like a weirdo waiting for her to emerge and praying she didn't have any issues in there.

Alright then. I shall leave the parenting to you.

Nah. Explain the airport thing like I'm a Lindsey Clancy truther

My niece is four
Her being your niece and not your daughter complicates things. I’ve done the following with my daughter:
- Family or unisex bathrooms - best option for father with daughter or mother with son
- Single locking men’s bathroom and gone in with her or stood guard
- Single locking women’s bathroom (like the single toilet bathroom at a gas station, no other people in there at a time) and gone in with her or stood guard
- brought her in men’s bathroom with me
- quick checked an empty women’s bathroom and stood guard outside
- asked another mother going into women’s bathroom to check it for me, then stood guard
Needs also change as they get older. I stand guard much more often than go in now.
For your situation, there’s probably a single locking family or unisex bathroom at the zoo. Just check inside, send her in, stand guard outside. Tell her to yell for you if she needs help.
Edit: handling the kid using the bathroom is usually NBD. The bigger issue is if you get a surprise shite coming

Single locking women’s bathroom
this is the ideal second option behind family bathroom for a father-daughter
especially at a gas station or a kid centric place

Make her cover her eyes and bring her into the men's bathroom

LNCHBOX, it's not very often that I give you an upvote, but this was funny.

Do you stand guard at the door? Go in there with her? What is the best way to do this?
At 4 years old you need to take her into any public bathroom. The risk of predators aside, they still struggle with the basics at times, not to mention the doors and the sink and the hand drier.
Top choice: family.
Second choice: Men’s unless it’s horrendous or occupied.
Third choice: Announce yourself and go into the women’s bathroom.
