How do you fathers take your young daughters to the restroom in public places? I've never done this before. My niece is four. I have no clue how to do this. I'm kind of nervous.

I was thinking of taking her to the zoo or Castles N' Coasters tomorrow on my day off. Do you stand guard at the door? Go in there with her? What is the best way to do this?

Thank you!!!

If I couldn't find a family bathroom, I took my daughter to a stall in the mens room and cleaned it before she used it. You absolutely must be in there IMO. I trust no one, but I was also almost abducted from a public bathroom when I was young, so I have a healthy fear of it

I’d just stand by the door or maybe find a trustworthy looking woman to go in with her

I usually took mine to a family restroom. Just observe the women's restroom, make sure there are lots of girls going in and out, tell her to holler like hell if shes uncomfortable and stand outside the door. Dont overthink it.

I take my 5 year old into the men’s room. Either stand outside of the stall, or go in with her if she asks.

ETA: if there is a family restroom that is option A.

Family restroom

If not, men’s restroom stall, and I stand at the stall door.

If there’s no family restroom, you should knock on the women’s door and ask if it’s okay to bring her in. Don’t bring her thru men peeing in urinals.

Teach her to pee using the back bumper of your car. She will learn this skill when she gets to college anyway so just get her started early.

Don't think so, but there's really not much to it. My dad thankfully was hyper vigilant and kicked the shite out of the guy. I had no idea what was going on til I came out the stall.

I don’t exactly need some random on the internet telling me how to parent my daughter

I wouldn’t bring her anywhere that there are open urinals.

And as the mom of 3 daughters, I was responding to the OP’s question.

The question is what fathers do, not what a mom does. A grown man going into the women's room is a hard no.

ETA If you had a son, are you taking him to the men's room? No, because that would be retarded. Same logic applies here.

If we were traveling just me and her, I’d find gas stations that looked clean and not terribly busy. I’d let her go in with me and go in the stall by herself while I peed in the urinal and stood guard of the door.

In like malls, theaters, zoo, etc., just hope it’s not too busy and let her go in the girls while you stand outside. Tell her to scream like hell if she’s got a problem.

It’s difficult to send them into somewhere alone though for sure.

Men’s bathroom with me. Go into a stall.

No other real options when it’s just us.

Best if the place has a “family” restroom.
