I don’t feel sorry for a single person who loses their house if they sat on their arse collecting gubment money instead of searching for a job. frick that, people need to be held accountable for their actions.

This is a complicated issue, because the government is directly responsible for a lot of these people not having jobs based on how they mishandled things.
It's just not as cut and dry as some make it seem.

Europe is about to have to make similar decisions and it could be super messy over there. Spain is already facing a second wave WITH salaries being subsidized and they never really recovered after the 2008 crash
shite sucks. it's really been hard to be motivated to keep working knowing i could have shut things down a bit and gotten $800/week, but it's been even harder thinking about how absolutely fricked i am due to timing of the 2008 crash and now this.
i'm glad i set my economic sights a lot lower in 2016 b/c if not i'd be a really bad place

No one said welfare. But I know people who chose to not search for jobs because they were comfortable getting their government money.... Now that the extra money had run its course, they’re shitting bricks. They’ve had months to look for jobs and chose not to.

I have stayed working the whole time and I will tell you this, in construction it is damn near impossible to keep people showing up during this whole thing. People are in my face screaming at me daily so they will get fired because the government is giving the extra money to everyone right now. I am behind on my project for the first time in 20 years, I might miss my deadline and it is 100% to the extra money making people want to get fired.
This shite needs to go away and if they want to help people, don’t make people pay federal state taxes on income for the rest of the year. Maybe that would spark people wanting to work again.

Yeah the whole thing sucks.
What I do find absolutely unacceptable is that these fricks waited this whole time and let the benefits expire without a plan. This also comes as people are preparing for school restart and some families will have to make a decision. If you're not going to extend it, that's fine but give these people a heads up. Not this shite show.

I know people that made $995 a week in unemployment w/ booster; that were furloughed and even if they went back they couldn't.
If any human being had a job that froze overtime and they made their true savings bucks in overtime. And were offered nearly a grand a week to sit home. It is a no brainer to sit home.
The jobs are now gone the company rehired people to do between $27 to $33 an hour jobs for $13 because the company lost revenue during covid. District Managers took paycuts during covid.
I don't know where you live but there are no jobs out there. And save the BS story they should go get 3-4 jobs to equal what they were paid. It is impossible.

My state announced pretty much at the start of April that they werent going to even bother trying to determine if you were working, fired, or whatever on the unemployment forms and as long as you check the right yes box and the right no box on about 10 questions you were good to go. Just a general lay off code that doesnt even tie you to any one business.
Lots of people could have just quit or kept working and gotten it without even trying to be fired.
But its kind of too late to milk the cow now.

In La.if you get fired from your job, you are not entitled to unemployment benefits. It's also my understanding that the Feds will not issue any unemployment benefits if a person is not receiving state benefits. And again, here in La. unemployment benefits expire after 26 weeks. Which means, with the first round of govt. mandated closings starting in mid March, those 26 weeks will start expiring in mid Sept, give or take a few weeks. If the State does not extend its benefits, that means no Fed. benefits once a
person's state benefits expire. And Republicans are saying it will take a good 4-5 weeks to get the engine started up again. And while some states are not bothering to check,it's definitely in an employer's best financial interest to turn in such people.

I had a guy that worked for me around 26 days and missed 11. He signed a sheet saying that he was going to be let go if he missed another day and then skipped the next day. He went a filed for unemployment, I did the paperwork and sent in all the documented missed days and received word that he was getting unemployment. He wouldn’t have been drawing much off of me but he was drawing.
The money should have been capped at what you were previously making rather than a blanket 865 in Alabama or 90% of what you were making.

the stimulus hold up is politics. Pelosi wants 3 trillion with millions sent to states so they can sit home and vote. while most states haven't spent their last stimulus because covid isn't what Cuomo said it was.

I remember the financial crisis during Obama. Young college kids were returning to jobs running a forklift in home depot while they were in college. They lost the job because a 40 year old man took it.
