If he didn't know that it was his SSN it's just more proof he's a fraud.

The other night he kept talking about how driving at night reminds him of the tracers from machine gun fire that some specific battalion used to use. Some shite like that. I wish I remember the battalion that he said.

Pretty sure we all use red tracers. I think all the Soviet bloc weapons used green tracers

this dude makes it sounds like he's Chris Kyle. Confirmed 39 kills, secret missions, outrageous situations that he'll revert to 'I don't want to talk about it' when pressed for details, etc.

Holy shite, I never thought of that. Just the other day he brought up how bad his math skills were when we were talking about getting wrong change back from the store. I can trip him up with a math question and then use that against him by asking how he made wind velocity calculations and shite. Boom!!!

He always used to say that he couldn't remember it and the 80 year old Marine would spit his out and say he still remembered his. He then later started saying it was his SSN but that was after the younger Marine started saying that they used SSN's.

What branch was he in? There are questions that each branch should be able to answer that aren’t common knowledge that you could ask him.

For instance, i'm Air Force, so I know that we serve 7 flavors of ice cream in our DFAC.

Marines know that brown are the best tasting color of crayons

Army know how to commit murder suicides like no other

Navy can explain how to fit 3 dick in their arse with no lube.

A sniper in the Marines.

Ask him in person what the Coriolis effect is, this is a sniper related question.

Simple answer: it’s the effect that the earth’s curviture and rotation have on a bullet when fired on a target at long range.

Ask him who were the two Marines who received two MOHs, this is general Marine Corps knowledge.

Answer is Dan Daly and Smedley Butler.

If he can’t answer those he’s a liar.

He's an electrician. He says he was a coal miner before that. I guess he was a Marine Sniper before being a miner. That's how the story goes, at least..

If he’s announcing himself as “gunny” then he was a gunnery sgt in the marine corp, or pretending to be. Most guys who have seen serious combat don’t really talk about it at all. Most of my military buddies and myself usually just talk about all the funny stories and dumb shite we did during our time in.

This. Some things are best to try and forget. My grandson tried to ask me about my service yesterday and I flat out told him I don't talk about some things. He left it at that.

Anyone who brags to that extent is lying. Maybe they served but they’re lying about what they did. People who really saw a lot of action don’t brag.

That cord on his right side is a French Fourragere. Wore that in 2ID. I didn't know that some Marine units also wore it until searching it just now.

Being a Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant AND a Navy SEAL, it doesn't surprise me that he's also rocking a French Fourragere.

Ask him to see his DD-214. Every discharged service member gets one. If you want a less direct approach.

If it's that obvious he's full of shite to someone like you who admittedly has no service knowledge, then everyone else probably knows too.

OP could concoct an elaborate ruse whereby he plans a formal dinner honoring "Gunny" for his service. Invite him to speak at the dinner as guest of honor and have him show up in his dress blues.

They always give it away when they wear the dress blues. When he shows up dressed like Col Gaddafi, you call him out on Facebook live

Sniper is the go-to for fakers. I'd start by asking his MOS but if he went so far as to get a tattoo he's probably done his homework.

Ask him about shooting. Seriously.

Long distance shooting is something I’m personally interested in and would like to learn how to do with skill. I met a guy that was an Army sniper and asked him about shooting. He immediately slipped into a very precise technical description on how they process a shot. I know a little about the concepts, but you could tell the guy was going to a base of knowledge when discussing the mechanics of shooting.

If this guy is a Scout Sniper, he should be able to give you a very detailed technical breakdown of how to process a shot.
