I agree with the poster who said ask what branch he was in. Has to be the Marines if he calls himself Gunny. Ask to see his DD-214. Ask what medals he received besides Good Conduct and National Defense. How many years he served and where were his tours of duty? If he can brag on number of kills, he certainly should have no trouble answering these basic questions.
FYI: Most prior military do not discuss or brag on killing and unpleasant subjects. Of course, there's always that 1% who at just plain stupid but usually this behavior should throw up a red flag that maybe they've seen too many war movies or played too many video games.

Every Marine Corps Lance Cooley Ive ever met was a “Force Recon Sniper”...

FTR, there is no official system for “confirming kills” and you can all but guarantee anyone who talks about confirmed kills consistently was a 4 and out sh*tbag, boot camp washout or a civilian that bases his military knowledge on “Hurt Locker”.

Also, if you are a Gunny (E7), you most likely haven’t been a sniper in years and have plenty of your military experience to draw from between then and now.

The good news is you don’t have to call the guy out or expose him. Odds are, he’s a dipsh*t, he knows he’s a dipsh*t and most people around him do too. He lives with a constant embarrassing inferiority complex and there is probably not much you can do to him that is worse than that.

I wish I had done something cool in the army. JK I didn't want to get my arse shot up. I was happy to be building stuff.

Hey, Broke....what was you MOS? Mine was 52B30 and AIT was at Ft. Belvoir, VA. Lasted 2 months. Supposed to be another 2 months but my buddy and I opted out at second tier. Went on to Ft. Campbell, Ky. with the 101st.
What unit?

I honestly feel sorry for the guy more than anything. He truly has built up this huge lie around himself. To be honest, I’ll probably just test his math knowledge to confirm what I already know and maybe make a few sly remarks to him but that’ll be about it. People already know he’s full of shite and pretty much give each other a ‘yeah rigbt’ look as soon as he leaves the room. Like someone else said, I definitely didn’t serve so if he even signed his papers, than he did more than me. I can admit that. It’s just truly aggravating the way he goes out of his way to spit his bullshite and then tell me that “I wouldn’t understand how combat is” and how his PTSD is acting up in certain days. I hate a bullshiter and he’s a condescending bullshitter and it gets insulting that he’d think that I would believe such blatant lies.

I’ll keep ya’ll posted about how this all ends up. Thanks for the advice AND your service (Veterans).

I think you are a pretty good poster so I hope you don't catch a round from about 650 yds...

I trick I learned to sniff out BSers is when they say something specific (a mistake), ask them to repeat it, or repeat it back and have them confirm. it. Then kind of furrow your brow and give them the "hmmm". Usually makes them nervous. If it is truly a lie and you get the facts, let them have it.

Thanks! You're pretty solid yourself.

I am forced to associate with the guy quite often so if he decides to cap me, it'll probably be from much closer than that.

The one thing more cringe worthy than stolen valor are people who go on stolen valor witch hunts.

Most of these stolen valor guys have mental issues or are just plain sad. Unless they're using it to defraud someone it's probably best to just leave it alone. Most of the time the guys that confront them come off looking like d-bags.

Has there been an update on this?

As many others have already stated in this thread, if any guy is talking about confirmed kills and shite like that, there’s about a 99% chance he’s lying. you absolutely never advertise that kind of shite. And typically to make it to the rank up gunnery sergeant in the Marine Corps takes about 12 years give or take. If he’s going around and introducing himself as gunny, then he sounds like a shite bag

I can’t fathom why someone would fake being in the military but who cares? I think the people that flip out over stolen valor have bigger issues.

Ask him Paris Island or San Diego and where he is from

his answer could be a dead give away if hes lying.

He should just go the passive aggressive route. Refer to him as Gunnery Sergeant (last name), stand at parade rest when he talks to him, call at ease when he enters a room, etc.
