Don't eat turkey lunch meat after the expiration date.

Is anyone else having issues with their milk going bad way before the due date? I've tried different brands, stores, refrigerators, physical locations. Last half gallon was sour within 1 day of buying.
I can't get milk to keep for more than a week or week and a half at the absolute most. The only exception I've found are FairLife and those types of low lactose milks.
A rumor I heard is a lot of stores these days have lazy workers that are leaving the product on the loading docks for too long before refrigerating it.

Not sure where you are buying milk from, but we buy 2-3 gallons at a time and they all make it to the date. Usually the milk does not last that long.
But if you really want long dates, get the organic milk. It lasts a lot longer, the organic milk we have in the fridge right now has December on it.

Bingo. I have always thought the same.

FWIW, I've found items in my pantry (can of baked beans) that was 3 years pass expiration
The FDA’s own website states that properly canned food really doesn’t go bad. They just warn about rusty cans and to look for signs of spoilage from can damage (like swelling cans).
I never throw out eggs without a float test. Get a bowl of water, put suspect eggs in, if they sink, they're still good. If they float, oxygen has penetrated the shell. Toss ‘em.

In my experience we had a product that we tested for 2 years and it was still good. So we set the expiration date at 2 years. This was the documented length of time that gave us legal protection. Personally, I think it would pass 5 year testing if stored correctly. This wasn't a final product, it was an intermediate sold to companies that used it in producing a final product .

Same here. If it looks and smells like it should, I'll eat it. Don't let my wife see that date though or it'll be in the trash.

It is amazing how long a bagel stays good for.
Buy a loaf of bread off the shelf. Buy a loaf of bread from the bakery of whichever grocery store you choose. Put them on the counter side-by-side and don't dick with them. See what happens.
The loaf of bread from the bread aisle may never mold. You'll be lucky to get three days out of the bakery loaf.
Also, buy a box of Krispy Kreme donuts and a box from a local donut shop. Leave a few sitting for a while. The Krispy Kreme will look fine. The others? You will have a science experiment going on.

Some things having an expiration date is completely useless. Bottled water or shampoo for example. I despise people that go through everything and throw away anything past the expiration without any common sense.

Not all expired food is created equal.

It's just a suggestion to get you to buy more.
Or at least that is what my wife tells me.

If a can isnt swollen or rusty it should be fine to eat.

My vinegar was past the due date, and I knew because it was very acidic and tart to the taste.
I saw an expiration date on some salt.
Salt is millions of years old, but 2 years after you buy some at publix you need to throw it away.

I bought some hoagie rolls from the bakery while the kids were on Fall Break- they didn't make a full week before every uneaten roll was furry.

turkey lunch meat
Have you ever noticed how unusually long the shelf life is on the sliced pre-packaged lunch meat? How does meat stay edible that long in a plastic container that never seals right?

Many would think a pumpkin would expire after Halloween or maybe even Thanksgiving, depending on how hot or cold it is.
Mine, with some acrylic paint, regularly make it Mardi Gras, and one year I had the huge one below make it 6 months to Easter. It had to be painted three times based on the Holiday.

Can’t waste food. I eat it if the mold is light green. Of course I try and cut off the moldy part but I only got sick once. If it’s dark green mold with white fuzz I give that to my kids. They usually waste food anyway.

I was for a while. White bread molding quickly, too. Once I switched to organic whole milk and wheat bread I haven’t had issues. The organic milk seems to have a long date.
