A cheeseburger, fries, and coke are absolutely not worse for you than alcohol. It's the amount of both, but someone who drinks 14 a drinks a week vs eating 7 cheeseburgers is going to be much less healthy.

Yes, per day.

Of course you can. It just may not be as healthy as drinking only 1 each day. And why do you keep talking in terms of “can” and “can’t” like this is some sort of affront on your freedoms. These are merely recommendations by 1 group, not law. Drink as much as you want. Jesus, y’all will whine about anything.

Baijiu is horrific. Sodabi rivals it. They drink that shite like water in Benin. They don't really have any distillers, so when you buy it it's typically in an old plastic water bottle. Made the mistake of asking how it's fermented and local showed me his 5 gallon bucket on the back porch

Yeah, but it's a group where what they say, many doctors and health professionals take as gospel. So they'll start being taught in schools that 2 Drinks = Bad.

I guess it's a lot easier to stop at one drink per day, where 2 almost always leads to 3+.

Just looked this up, and this really, really shocked me. shite, the Chinese are even more underrated drinkers than I thought:

quote:

Baijiu is the world's bestselling liquor, with five billion litres sold in 2016.[9] That number was up to 10.8 billion liters sold in 2018, more than whisky, vodka, gin, rum and tequila combined.

I know there are a shite ton of Chinese people, but you’d think with the amount of vodka the Russians drink, the amount of tequila Mexicans drink, and the amount of whisky Europeans drink that it would have eclipsed the amount of bajiu consumed, not to mention Americans being a fan of all 3 of those drinks.

Alcohol is and always will be the chains I have to keep from shackling me.

That said, my go-to alcoholic beverage of choice has always - always - been glass bottled Heineken. When I'm on a really good tear, which happens less and less as of late, I'll go through 12 per night.

Aside from the alcohol, I've just always loved the skunky, crisp taste of an ice cold bottle of Heiney, and lucky for me my chosen brand released their 0% beverage not too long ago and that has changed the game for me.

The 0% Heinekens are remarkably close to the taste of the real thing. There's a little bit of "pop" on the back end that's lacking from it having no alcohol, but even then it's close, scary close, to the real thing, and after a couple of them you get used to it.

It's weird smashing a 6 pack of beer that tastes damned near exactly like the real thing and feeling nothing, while satisfying the desire for the taste and "habit" part of drinking a beer.

I can have 1 (or 2, but don't tell Doctor Timothy Ballbuster) of the real thing if I want that euphoric buzz that only the first couple of drinks of alcohol give you, and then switch over to the Rated PG version and by the time I've had a couple of those it's time for bed.

When it comes to Heineken folks usually either love it or hate it, but since I am of the former and since I had an alcoholic father (and all his brothers were alcoholics too) and I know where that road takes you and don't want it for my son, and since my mind wants to be sober (knows I should be) but my body wants lots of beer, since I'm a creature of habit, the release of their 0% beverage has been a game changer for me.

Alcohol is a terribly toxic substance that takes complete control over you, but what's so scary about it is that it's a sneaking son of a bitch that dismantles your world little by little each day until one day, two decades later, you wake up unemployed with the screaming trots and shitting blood with no wife, kids, family or friends to confide in about your second DUI you just got, and at that point when you want to fight back you realize the mule ain't gonna get kicked without you knowing his feelings on it. As a matter of fact, by then he will kill your arse cold turkey if you try to shoo him off the property in a likewise manner. All around the world to say, alcohol is a beast better left untouched - 1 beer or not - if you don't have good beast wrangling skills. I certainly don't.

a committee of experts noted there isn’t adequate evidence to support different alcohol recommendations for men and women, and that research supports tightening the limit for men.
I vehemently disagree with this statement if it means men and women are affected in nearly equal terms regarding the negative long-term effects of daily alcohol consumption past levels of moderation (which happens to be 1 for this study). Even though my evidence is anecdotal, apart from seeing mostly male alcoholics fight their demons, I've seen way too many women who abused alcohol (and drugs too, particularly pills) who did well to last half as long as a male. The most recent example of this was when I helped a friend move some furniture from his wife's deceased sister's home: She drank at least a bottle of wine (but usually not much more than that) every day for 20 years, and in her last 5 years of her life she was a wreck and eventually died of cirrhosis of the liver which, as we all know, is a very bad way to go.

I've seen my fair share of loved ones succumb to that terrible death, but aside from that, without help, I can drink a bottle of wine in 1 sitting, and while I won't be in good shape doing it for 20 years, I probably won't be knocking on death's door in 15. Women addicts, even and especially alcoholic women, comparatively speaking, usually don't last nearly as long as their male counterparts. Not the ones I knew, at least.

I don’t think you have any idea the preservatives, antibiotics, corn syrup, GM, and grease that’s in a modern day burger (and I love burgers) Wine has been on the Med diet for 1000s of years. Let’s not even discuss coke (I also like)

I’ve been drinking like several ounces of whiskey before going to bed (I work nights) and I catch a good drunk before going to sleep. Does that make me an alcoholic? I’m not too keen on my job...

I highly doubt there is a noticeable difference in someone who drinks 1 vs 2 a day.

You don't think 2 could be twice as bad as 1? This board is the best!

You think that 1 billion people should drink more than 1.5 billion people?
