Y’all complain about “fatties”.... then y’all complain about parents that have their kids playing sports all the time. Schizophrenic much?

Travel ball isn't important at all. Even if a kid is legit.
College coaches (whether its football, basketball, baseball) put more value into whether or not a kid plays another or multiple sports.
It shows that the kid likely has other skills that can be utilized in different ways.
In baseball, you know what college coaches don't like? Knowing that someone they are recruiting has played baseball for most of the year. Especially pitchers. There are those who argue "its all about the reps, the more they play the more reps they get". No.
Playing travel ball does nothing to help kids become better baseball players. I know there are some of the more expensive teams that pays a coach to coach their team.. But other than that.. You have daddies who think they know more than they do coaching them. Then they all encourage their parents to get them coaching lessons.
Its one big racket. There are complexes all over the place, they hold tournaments in which teams pay an entry fee to get into. It brings people to the complex which they have to pay to get in and then concessions.. And in order to keep that going, parents have to think that it is important their kids have to play.

It was $10 a person to get into this thing. That’s a minor league ticket at some places.

Have a nephew that plays, was asked to come watch him play, brought the fam and was floored when it cost me $50 to get in.
He didn’t even get to play.
Got to see some crazy Karens and Under Armour allstars tho

What was the ratio of coaches to players? The best travel teams have no less than 10 coaches.

How many Uni's does your travel ball team have? Home, away, batting jersey's etc... When i was a kid we pulled the same old arse uniforms out a box and used every year . they always smelled like mothballs

found out my uncle basically redshirted my cousins in 1st or 2nd grade. Used the excuse they were behind after living abroad so now theyre ahead of the rest of their classmates in school and sports
This equals out in high school. I've seen this before where the kid was held back and looks like a future All American, taller than other kids, but gets to high school where athletes start to catch up and the kid is just another player.

We held my son back, not for sports, but he still plays travel ball with his birth age group. I don’t think it’s healthy to only compete against kids younger than you. That can’t be the best thing for your development.

Yeah but mom's get to bring their personalized Yeti cups with Sutter Home in them, correct?

The funniest thing was the dads decked out in under armour and Oakley and taking it WAY too seriously.
Lots of the dad's live vicariously thru their offspring.

It isn't about travel ball itself. It is about the people and that orbit around it

We had 6 games yesterday, and now two championship games today. Our kids are way ahead of the learning curve when it comes to basketball.
If your kids enjoy sports, travel ball is the only way to be competitive.
We ask them every year if it is still fun. They always say yes, so we keep playing.
Travel ball is also a great economic boom for the host towns. We sell out the hotels and pack the restaurants. So yes, it is worth it.

Sucks to be you... and most of you. The lesson is dont pursue travel ball unless your kid is legit.
Stick with Rec and embrace your mediocre kids so your weekends end quickly and you dont feel so bad.
I played in college bro.
So did my wife (she was all conference 4 years in a row- I sadly was not).
We dont need to live through our kids like you.
We've been there and done that.
Now for fat out of shape people like yourself, that probably never made any team of any kind, I understand that it excites you to vicariously live through your kids.
The reality is when your crappy genetics hit your kid around puberty, they're toast. Enjoy your championship t-ball until then.

Call me crazy, but those folks out there living actively seem to have a better grasp of life, than the ones laughing on the interwebz message board. Just my 2 cents.

They should have charged a wagon fee. Those things took up so much space it was ridiculous.
