How many coaches and scouts have any of you ever seen at a travel ball tournament

None, that’s what the Showcases are for

FYI, Cade Anderson is a Freshman at St Paul, LSU offered him a scholarship at a showcase in Hoover last summer.

He hadn’t even played one single varsity game yet. Dude was 14 years old

So you’re at a travel ball tournament right now “living actively”. How did Braeden’s team do in pool play yesterday? Was dinner at Applebee’s good last night, or were y’all at the sports complex too late to do that?

I don’t have a Braeden on a travel ball team. However, I’m also not a loser with 30,000 post on a internet website. I’m just out here living life man. Enjoy your moms basement and that take out, while I’m out eating at Applebee’s!

Travel ball is also a great economic boom for the host towns. We sell out the hotels and pack the restaurants. So yes, it is worth it.

Yeah I’m sure Jaxtyn and Haleighandrea love that corner booth at Applebee’s watching momma down dollaritas and mandarin chicken salads while daddy tries to negotiate a travel ball discount with the assistant manager since his ribs took more than 10 minutes to come out.

But that’s okay, you got to use your AAA discount back at Comfort Suites because Mr. Patel accidentally booked you for a King Suite even though Karen swears she booked y’all a Two Queen Suite on Travelocity.

Hey but at least the kids can watch Disney Plus in the 350 Ruston Deluxe Edition on the way home, can’t believe you to talked that finance manager down to a 9.79% APR on a 84 month note. Just think, 67 more monthly payments and it’s all yours.

I started a thread several years ago about putting my son in travel ball. It went twenty pages!

He now plays college baseball. FWIW

Get your fat arse in the frickin truck Karen! Kayden struck out twice in the morning game. We have to go to academy and get him a new under armor sleeve before this afternoon’s game or he’ll strike out even more

I’m in my 50’s with two grown sons. My oldest son played travel ball for three years. I fully understand the lifestyle. And yes, it can be a lifestyle. I always tried to make sure that my son was enjoying it, and after three years, he wasn’t anymore. It’s an unnecessary grind for all involved, imo. When my son got to high school, he played football and baseball, but he really concentrated more on football. He was able to go on to play college football. He was a good high school baseball player, but the passion was gone. I blame travel ball.

Even when we were in middle school we thought the travel ball kids were douchebags. And those were opinions from fertile young minds.

Call me crazy, but those folks out there living actively seem to have a better grasp of life, than the ones laughing on the interwebz message board. Just my 2 cents.

Call me crazy, but are you saying that is the only way to live actively? Kids start playing travel ball in what? 2nd grade? 7 years old. And you want your 7 year old to be a winner.. So you don't care if he is being developed in away to help him for the long term. You just want him to do what that system he is in needs him to do because when he is graduating HS without being able to play baseball throughout his HS years because he couldn't make the team.. At least he can say "my daddy told me I was a winner when I was 7 because my travel ball team won a tournament in Hammond".

yeah I hear you.

Here’s the issues with LSU, kids like Cade that LSU recruits don’t ever step foot on campus. They get drafted out of high school or after 2 years of college ball. LSU needs to figure out a way to keep these kids committed or recruit other kids.

Or just fire CPM. Woodward isn’t putting up with this shite much longer.

Dropped an F bomb on my son today in the finals, ‘time to fricking play’...could have sworn I kicked a baby. Oh well. I stand by my comment. They lost 1-0 and there was about 10 minutes left. It was time to fricking play.

I’m thankful travelball didn’t really exist when I was a kid, and when my kids were young. We would have missed out on hundreds of great weekend family trips, camping, hiking, going to the beach, all day bike rides, canoe trips, trips to various cities, tons of other activities instead of spending the time and money to sit all day at a ball park.

I was working in BR for three months and during that time Traction was having team selection

You would think it was like life and death; the drama the nonstop gossiping among the women

talking about CHILDREN playing fricking BASEBALL

children baseball

It was like they were handing out MLB contracts or something

It was absolute craziness... I don't think I knew parents really got that obsessed over child sports

People still buy into that whole thing about having to play travel ball to get noticed thing?

The absolute truth is that if your kid hopes to play varsity baseball at a school that has a decent baseball team he has two options: be an elite+ athlete OR play travel ball from age 10 thru junior high. If they don’t play against the better competition at a young age they will have no chance to be productive at the high school level where all of their teammates and the opposition has played years of travel/showcase baseball. Rec league coaches do not prepare kids well enough to outplay kids that have been playing travel ball. There are 4 upperclassmen on my sons high school team that didn’t play travel/showcase and those kids play JV and occasionally get to pinch run. The game is just too fast for their skills, both mentally and physically.

Travel ball may have started as a way to get kids “exposure” but now, as unfortunate as it may be, it’s almost a prerequisite just to play varsity baseball at the high school level.

Yes, some of the parents are ridiculous and take it to the extreme but there are a handful that do that in every activity/sport.

TLDR travel ball isn’t about junior getting a full ride to college...junior probably won’t get to play varsity high school ball without it
