Are you my wife?

You say criminal codes.

I say yeah, legislators should get rid of some.

You say not legislators for criminal codes, it’s policies.

Holy mother of moving goal posts.....

look at the link posted about PTD

you can have "good laws" that become terrible schemes when you allow the state to have too much power over its citizens

we could have 100x the laws but a more free society if prosecutors didn't abuse their power and create powerful and terrible schemes using the laws. we could have 10% of our laws and face a worse system if prosecutors and LEO pushed those laws to the max

we need fewer laws

we need the supreme court to get its head out of its arse and restore our 4th Amendment rights

we need exposing of local/parish schemes and federal prosecutions of LEO/DAs/Prosecutors who violate rights. they should also look into using RICO to prosecute agencies for mass violations criminal law (like this LACE program seems to be)

I actually agree with a lot of what you’re saying.

But what we truly need is a citizen population with more attention to being good citizens.

Someone does a shitty thing and the citizenry demands law #1 to address it. Then another does a slightly altered shitty thing and the citizenry demands law 1A to address that. Then a third does another slightly altered shitty thing and the citizenry demands law 1B to address that.

people see those organizations and think "they are legitimate because they are trying to protect me"

when really, it's more like "they support laws that will increase their power over me so they can steal more of my money in order to enrich their budgets and salaries". people who bootlick these organizations drive me mad

Best trap I ever saw was in N. LA somewhere between I-20 and Arkansas. Got pulled over for doing 65 in a 55. Told the officer the last sign I saw was 65. He said “ya, well the tractors knock them down quicker than we can put them back up.”

Straight up money grab and knew I wouldn’t drive 5 hours to fight it.

You’re missing the point. People working low paying jobs can’t just take off. They lose money for not being at work.

Oh blow it out your sovereign citizen arse. No one here is boot licking. But this story is nothing new. This entire state is one big money grab, so cops “collecting and serving” rightfully draws a collective yawn from anyone who doesn’t live under a rock.
If you or the OP are so shocked and disturbed by this story, run for office and change it. I’ll vote for you.
But you’re gonna be just as corrupt and dirty as every other well intentioned person who ever got elected and you’ll fall in line with the rest of the public servants. And that’s a bigger issue than this.

that means that those with means have to start diverting their personal resources to help those without means who face the wrath of the system. i don't even mean "paying more taxes". i mean things like helping more kids to try to divert from the lower class mentality/lifestyle and even pooling resources to say, help people bond out of jail. shite like that

Neither of those groups give two shits about law and order, big salaries and even bigger retirements.

I’ll give a perfect example. I work in IT and frequently bid on projects.

Years ago the project would come out and stay install Equipment A.

Now they come out and say arrive at time X, enter through door Y, do not wear sandals and cut off shorts, unpackage equipment A and handle the packaging properly, install equipment A, etc...

Why all the extra rules? Because the industry has been overrun by unprofessional fools who do the most crazy shite you can imagine that have to be handled like babies.

Perfect parallel to the general citizenry and our laws on the books.

The “conservatives” of Louisiana get their rocks off on being tough on crime which enables sheriffs and DAs to pull off quite clear money grabs.

His revelation is nothing new. He is incredibly naive to believe this was a secret. Common knowledge.
I’ve known this for 50 years.

From what I’ve seen/heard troopers don’t typically write speeding tickets for anything less than 15 over. You may get caught in a school or residential for less than that but I’ve talked to a handful of them that said 15 is their minimum. Not like this is golden meadow and you’re getting pulled over for 38 in a 35.

A recovering addict I was helping out just lost his $600 a week job because he got picked up for a seven year old open container attachment and couldn't get bond set for five days.
System is screwed for poor people.

Myself I don't even appear in traffic court, I lawyer up for anything greater than a parking ticket.

It's not the job of police to go out of their way to write traffic violations. They're supposed to protect people, and hiding in speed traps doesn't protect anyone. It's designed to extract as much money out of people and for no other reason.
