I know police officers in the New Orleans area who tell me 100% there is a quota system and they will be reprimanded if they don’t meet their monthly quota of tickets and arrests.

And I’ve seen first-hand how those who try to speak out are silenced.

No but they will get their pound of flesh. How do you feel about getting a ticket for 3 MPH over? Well, I got pulled over in New Ibera, cop says I was going 73 in a 60. I was going 63 in a 60. I argue he’s says dash cam has it, say ok let’s look, he says see you in court. I take a whole day to sit for the arraignment and get taunted “do I really want to plead innocent? Really “? I take another full day for the hearing. Again, every official gives me shite telling me I’m going to have to face the dash cam. I finally get to see it. It’s not even my stop and then, OMG, the tape goes to snow, can’t see anything. The judge asks me I say I was going three over and the DA says ok and hits me with the three over fine. I flip out and in the end send them a community service form. fricking pieces of shite.

ou don't see a problem with an institutional policy from the DA downward with no justification other than resource extraction?

they aren't doing this for safety. they're literally doing it to take our money. no other reason.

Yes, I have a problem with it. Especially since I’m gonna have to pay Lafayette Parish money for my ticket . But this is nothing new. It’s not unique to this state or LSP. On the other hand, if I wasn’t speeding, I wouldn’t have gotten the ticket.

I’m more annoyed that This guy is crying foul after he’s been caught, yet he was a willing participant while employed.

I'm no fan of speed traps. Speeds should only be able to be decreased 10mph at a time with the accompanying "decrease speed ahead" sign. Also, we need to have equal enforcement under the law. It's not fair to be doing 75 in a 70 and not have a problem through one parish, then enter a small town and be given a ticket for the exact same speed.

All things being equal every time I've been given A speeding ticket, it's been my fault and I was in fact speeding

Speeding is relative. Near downtown Birmingham on the interstate they have a temporary 40 mph sign on an 8 lane highway. Doesnt say "when workers present" and there arent any workers there. Cop could pull over ANYONE because its dangerous to slow down to below 40 mph there. Its 60mph everywhere else near downtown Bham. No one goes 60 mph because its a damn interstate. They just want the ability to turn on the money machine any time they want to.

How one ticket could literally bury a person who struggles in poverty to feed their children. They are then forced to choose between paying a ticket or a light bill. And just for the record, this is 100% bullshite.

Anyone can go to court and get the most incredible interest free payment plan God has ever gifted this world with.

Judges will take five bucks a month if that’s all they reasonably deem someone can do.

Show up with your iPhone and your nails done, it might be 25 a month.

that's what i was thinking ... got a rather large ticket for various offenses after moving to houston many, many years ago after college, and showed up in court for it ... they offered a payment plan, though i didn't need it ...

and we should probably hand out more speeding tickets, or at least more tickets for distracted driving ... no fan of many leo practices such as caf, but traffic violations isn't on my radar ...

But he’s got no credibility based on his guilty plea. Another criminal with an axe to grind. How far is that gonna get?

this quote is very Louisiana

quote:

District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla acknowledged his program keeps money out of the court system, but he said he needs it. For instance, one program requires his office to pay officers overtime for working extra hours to write traffic tickets. “And that’s kind of why we started the diversion program, we just weren’t making the money,” he said.

what? why?

his guilty plea was related to changing information on tickets to further this scheme. he owned up to it. why does that affect his credibility?

the district attorney whose policies pushed troopers to break the law is the agency who prosecuted him on this charge ( ). where is his credibility?

There are going to be others to fall, Jimmy. Be patient. Chris Guillory and a few others at Troop D may be next.

Here's an article about former Trooper Rogers by Louisiana Voice (before Tom Aswell went insane with TDS, and was actually a competent investigative journalist):

LINK

There may be more at Troop D, and elsewhere at LSP, falling before too long.
