On an individual level it matters for peace of mind & to know how contagious you are. It'll be especially important once we begin to return to normalcy.

At a population level, data points are necessary for leadership to make sound decisions and knowing where the virus is spreading rapidly. With appropriate testing we can respond rapidly to small outbreaks to contain them before it spreads too much and/or to preemptively send extra ventilators, beds, etc to those that are seeing outbreaks.

I know you likely aren't in the field, but what is the situation at The Children's Center and Memorial Hermann looking like?

We went last week and we had to get checked 1000 times but we're supposed to be heading back over there tonight.

personally have yet to see one person with or without the virus (tests pending) with more than the sniffles or flu like symptoms. I realize it is only a matter of time before I do but still.

Wait, people are going to the ER with only sniffles?

I don’t understand why people don’t just assume they are positive. If you believe you may have covid, just assume you do and act accordingly.

I mean, anyone showing any sort of respiratory symptoms should act as if they are contagious

This is what most people don’t understand. Who gives a frick about the test? If you have it, there’s nothing they can do for you.

Just assume you are and quarantine. You can't go anywhere anyway.

I don't disagree really. BUT! The only people who can move resources like that are the military, and the only way to test like that is massive public testing stations. Not one person straggling into an ER every hour with mild symptoms and wrecking a room and a pile of PPE for one fricking nasal swab. You've tied up one nurse and one doc for a bit and a room for about 90 minutes. 90 minutes is a good number from arrival to the terminal clean making the room available again.

Military & drive-thru stations. Yes I agree. We need to be testing like South Korea.

Everyone else:. It all comes back to data. Our experts and leaders need all of the data to know exactly what's going on and to make decisions. You don't want our leaders arbitrarily making decisions with little to no data - that's how you get total lockdowns.

Coronavirus pandemic or not , people have been going to the ER for non emergencies for a very long time.

As more are tested, more are going to be positive, and in numbers that will make the general public further shite themselves.
For a brief time, as more and more test positive the mortality rate will drop significantly. The panic would not last.

With all the new private company testing that the FDA has fast track approved, I am hopeful this will come fruition. It's a good thing that the government is getting out of the way of private companies now.

Med Center or West Campuses?

MEd Center will ALWAYS be worse. TCH should be normal but very cautious still low cases of children and Corona. Memorial in med center will be a daily shite show.

The economic fallout will be worse than this virus. Trump said yesterday that if the virus mortality rate falls under 1% he’s reopening shite next week.

He didn’t close anything, he just touted the closures/stay at home orders after the fact. The governors are the ones who would have to reopen.

These "I'm a nurse and here's what what I see!" threads are like the new daily lockdown rumor threads

The panic is completely media driven for reasons that are obvious.

Is there an issue, yes, but it's not as bad as being treated, and if we don't get things opened back up in the next couple of weeks, the economy will take a year to recover.

Now, do we need new social distancing measure to remain at some level, yes, I think so.

Do you know how difficult it is to “quarantine” with a family?

Tests should be available.
