LA Campaign Contributions lookup

Enter "HNTB" into the Contributor's Name field...HNTB has their own PAC to contribute to campaigns. They've given tens of thousands to SWB, Wicker, Marcelle, Gaudet, Cleve Dunn, the whole cabal...and that is just for BR. The rest of their contributions list is a who's who of dysfunctional mayors like Latoya and parish presidents.

I gotta respect the Dems on one level--they stick together, no matter how corrupt their leaders are.

Republicans shunned Nixon for decades but the Dems love the Clintons, LaToya, Pelosi, Sheila Jackson Lee, etc etc etc

Surprisingly Chauna is actually a no

Councilwoman Chauna Banks, a member of the Democratic Party like Broome, said she would vote against the fee. She said the city-parish’s statement does not align with what she was told by the administration.

"I have not been able to determine or find that this administration is forthcoming, knowledgeable or transparent regarding what mandates they are supposedly getting from these federal agencies," Banks said.

So why did Broome pull this off the docket?

I thought this had to be voted on NOW because of the soon to be imposed federal consent degree??

What happened to all the urgency surrounding this “fee”?

The urgency went away when they realized it not only would fail miserably but would open up a LOT of scrutiny on the high pressure tactics used to push it.

Exactly, they are not on our side.

So that the milquetoast Metro Council can pass it in a month or two after the heat dies down.

Were Paul Gates still alive and working for WAFB, their coverage would likely be far different on this story.

Lets see if there is a scathing editorial in the BR Business Report. They close their eyes to issues depending upon who is in office. Gov Edwards was always a target of Rolf McCollister's ire, but Bobby Jindal could do little wrong.

The Advocate has shed experienced reporters and editors like so many other newspapers, and this story will ultimately go against their politics so clearly on display in far too many issues.

I think they also realized that they're in for a world of legal hurdles if they try to pass this "not" tax without legislature/voter approval.

Gates would have been fired just as they did to Chawla

These are different times unfortunately

Fair point.

Maybe we can look forward to more 10 minute segments on such exciting subjects as Club Bella Noche, 10 years later.

I'm not 100% familiar with the process but if it was properly introduced in the previous council meeting, the item may have to stay in the agenda and at the next meeting, a motion mist be made to delete the item and that motion to delete had to be voted in by Council.

I reviewed the previous agenda and it appears to be properly introduced.

They can make the motion to delete, but they cannot actually delete the item until a public hearing is opened and closed because the item is already on the agenda.

Go down there and speak your peace. Lamont can't really stop you. I think you get 2 or 3min.

Rolf has been a bitch for sometime. Giving print space to Gravy. But this is big enough that the local media is going to have to report it. We will just see what the slant is.

They'll likely be permitted to do some approved poking on this, accept Broome's explanation blaming the city attorney, and move along.

None will ask anything remotely tough about how ham-fisted and corrupt this whole deal was.
