On January 27, 2023 in Florida, an officer observed a man driving a golf cart on a public roadway. The golf cart was multiple cars in front of the officer, and before he could get close, the golf cart turned into a gated community. The officer followed and eventually caught up when the man pulled into his driveway. When the officer advised the man of the violation and requested his identification, the man became defensive and refused to provide any ID. This is body cam footage of the events that followed.

It's Florida. Always Florida.

I have to assume you ae being sarcastic.
If so, can you please list the other laws that should be ignored, and who should be able to make those determinations? Serious question.

any cop who thinks this is something they should be doing should be put on permanent duty directing traffic

It's amazing how many complaints we get about kids driving golf carts/4-wheelers on public roads. Having said that, we just had a fatal crash involving a kid driving an ATV on a roadway just a few weeks ago.

I'd bet you'd have a different answer if it was a black kid on an ATV on Canal Street in NOLA.

If they were driving in the gated community or where Golf Carts are allowed, I would agree with you BUT if they were driving on the main road then you have a stupid take.
I don't know which one happened.

Being a jerk comes with a price. His tone sure changed once the cuffs went on.

Arrested for driving a golf cart in a gated community. There is no place on this earth for someone who is a part of that community to get arrested for that. Terrible abuse of power.

I didn't watch the video, only the quoted caption in OP. But let me guess, took about 4 police units a half hour because a guy was on a golf cart? I feel safer now.

That’s not why he got arrested. He got arrested for being a fricking a-hole because he didn’t want a citation for driving on a public roadway in a golf cart.

I couldn't watch. That woman's voice and cadence sounds like a chihuahua.

Just a reminder that there's no legal duty for cops to do anything. If the cops had more important things to attend to (which I hope they do), they could have just given him a warning and had him be on his way.

I like these people who think their house is off limits for cops if they commit a crime elsewhere and make it home.

Damn, getting cuffed over a 150 dollar ticket. Just show the ID laugh it up with the cop, pay the fine, and dont drive on a public roadway in a golf cart.
I ran the stop sign that was actually in my property once. Pulled over in my driveway, cop says 'man, you cant pull in and block these folks drive", I tell him it is mine He wrote me up. I rolled thru the stop, I made the mistake. Pay the ticket and laugh. When teens and others are blowing through the stop I sure bitch about it and wish the police were there to ticket em....
