All of this on the Tesla earnings call, of all places.

quote:

“This is the time to think about the future, and also to ask, is it right to infringe upon people’s rights as what is happening right now?” Musk said.
“So the expansion of the shelter in place or as we call it forcibly imprisoning people in their homes, against all their constitutional rights, is my opinion, and breaking people’s freedoms in ways that are horrible and wrong, and not why people came to America or built this country, excuse me. It’s outrage, it’s an outrage. It will cause loss, great, great harm, but not just to Tesla, but any company. And while people will weather the storm there are many small companies that will not,” he said.
He continued sounding more and more incensed, at one point asking, “What the f--k?”

quote:

Later, he continued in the same vein, “I think the people are going to be very angry about this and are very angry. It’s like somebody should be, if somebody wants to stay in the house that’s great, they should be allowed to stay in the house and they should not be compelled to leave. But to say that they cannot leave their house, and they will be arrested if they do, this is fascist. This is not democratic. This is not freedom. Give people back their goddamn freedom.”

That's going to piss off some folks

Transcript of his response when asked a question regarding Tesla's liquidity position.

People are going to eat this up because everyone just wants to go back to normal, but the irony of Musk saying this is hilarious.

No doubt. Spent a good chunk of the call praising China, but his hypocrisy doesn't make the underlying sentiment incorrect.

I absolutely hope there is some legislation passed that prevents something this drastic in the future.

It's truly outrageous.

Guy is a douche and it is laughable that he is all of the sudden the champion of small businesses after getting all of that government cheese to start and grow his company.

With that said, he is speaking the truth.

Saw that as well. A bunch of uneducated folks who think his stance highlights the health care inequalities in this country. Apparently in their bubble the working man is the one who wants to stay home. It's absurd.

It will be interesting to see what legislation comes from this. I would hope there would be something to try to rein this in, but I suspect it will be the opposite if anything does come of it. A lot of politicians have got a taste of authoritarian power from this, I suspect they will work to further enshrine that power into law.

back when i used to gamble on earnings reports, I would listen to calls live via Yahoo! Finance. Not sure if you still can or if they're archived.

Yeah,I haven't seen anyone forcibly imprisoned in their homes. It's pretty much business as usual here.

Restaurants are serving carry out and haircuts are hard to come by,but everything else is pretty much the same except for distancing and that's been done voluntarily.

I guess we're lucky down here in the delta.

I'm baffled. Do you people believe in states' rights or not? These shelter-in-place orders are coming from the state level or below. You're proposing a federal law that will override state laws, and it ain't gonna happen.
