You are really eaten up with stupidity and are purposely being obtuse to downplay what he has contributed to society so far.
If he hadn't contributed anything of value or iterated on what came before, he wouldn't be worth what he is. That's the beauty of capitalism. The ability to risk it all to both advance society and create wealth.
But it's good to know that the left is coming around to our side when it comes to not having the government pick winners
It's actually astounding how many illogical and flat out wrong/bad ideas the left and progressives will openly and loudly advocate for.

Technically someone did.
It was Lebron or someone he paid to do so

pretty wild how quickly that story disappeared

Blame the Government for the BS credits.
Well that is all that I have been arguing. My initial post in this thread was in response to Darth_Vader who asked:

Did he go into my bank accounts and steal money from them to gather his wealth? How does his financial situation affect mine?
And my only point is that SpaceX was the privatization of a tax-payer funded public program that also makes most of its money in government contracts.
Tesla is also a company that benefited greatly from government subsidies and government forcing other businesses to pay for carbon credits.
So, yes, we are funding his companies and he is profiting from that funding.

Dude could singlehandedly put a giant dent in global hunger and infant mortality. He would be celebrated and glorified in perpetuity
quote:Yours is a simple mind.
Several hundred billion dollars to well over $1 trillion has been spent globally over the last 50 years on hunger reduction and food-security programs.

Good for Elon. We need more elons. I have no problem with Elon making as much as he can, he seems to be quite skilled at deploying capital.
I am not a fan of concentrated wealth and the legal schemes that allow large fortunes to continue for generations. The whole point of our forced heirship laws was to reduce the concentration of power in fewer and fewer people.
But I would bet that Elon already has the inter generational and charitable trusts set up to preserve the power of his fortune for a thousand years. I wish he would just straight split it up between his 500 children.

Yes, SpaceX has government contracts. No one is denying that but that’s not the same thing as taxpayers just “funding Elon.” NASA bought launch/crew/cargo services from SpaceX because SpaceX could do the job cheaper and more efficiently.
And SpaceX is not just a government-contract company. Starlink as a stand alone business with millions of private customers, airlines, ships, businesses, etc. would be one of the largest tech companies in the world if it wasn't under the SpaceX umbrella. Government is still a large customer for SpaceX, but acting like the whole company is just taxpayer money is misleading.
Saying “we funded his companies” like they’re just welfare projects is a bad take.

Govt has been doing the space / rocket shite since we kidnapped our first German rocket scientists, yet Elon comes along an in a few years has a self-landing launch vehicle saving shite load of "taxpayer" money, creates what is arguably the most creative and sophisticated Civilian/Military LEO broadband network......Whatever we are paying him in contracts, we are probably saving quadruple what any public agency would spend doing it themselves.
Tesla is also a company that benefited greatly from government subsidies and government forcing other businesses to pay for carbon credits.
Liberal Dems are dumb, nothing we can do about that. Props to Elon for beating them at their own game.
