Eddie got throat cancer from eating Valaries WAP.
Incorrect...his doctors contribute his cancer the metal pics he used to put in his mouth all the time...The smoking contributed to his GI issues that plagued him recently.

What a downer. Like loosing SRV, Randy Rhoads, or John Bonham. EVH made such a monstrous impact on rock and metal, we wouldn’t know it today without his influence on guitar players worldwide.
Truly a big loss, but glad he’s not in pain anymore.

I’ll miss this guy. VH exploded when I was in my teens and their work in the 80’s defined that decade moreso than punk or new wave, IMO.
2020 has fricking sucked.

I was there that legendary night in August 1980 (no pics) with my high school boyfriend. My first rock concert, so awesome. Saw them again in ‘81 or ‘82 with my best friend. Great times.

with journey i think
My parents went to that show at the Hirsch in Shreveport. My dad said no one knew who VH was and they completely blew everyone away and Journey stood no chance after that.
Edit* it may have been Boston that they were opening for at that show, I'll have to have my pops tell the story again now that he's passed.

Steve Vai and Angus Young up there. Eddie is my favorite. Don’t get me wrong, but I’ve seen all of them in concert live and I can tell you they all were freaking awesome.

I tell myself
Hey only fools rush in
Only time will tell
If we stand the test of time
All I know
You've got to run to win
And I'll be damned if I'll get
Hung up on the line
Rest in Peace - Edward Van Halen

Met Steve Vai at the joy theater when he did his 25 anniversary tour of one of his albums (name escapes me) about three years ago. Got to talk with him briefly and watched him do sound check. Was a real down to earth guy.
Vai is a guitar virtuoso, Eddie was on an entire different plane with just how he approached playing guitar, his writing style and creating the tapping method.

I believe that was the Passion and Warfare anniversary tour. Fantastic album, fantastic show.

Girl i went to HS with was "discovered" by EVH. She was good friends with Eddie and Valerie.
Her band opened for Van Halen a few times, it was called "Private Life"

The greatest guitarist of my generation. RIP great one.

Coolest EVH story I got(probably should have posted this in the "claim to fame thread"):
Eddie once stayed the night in the house my wife grew up in in the early 90's when he was married to Valerie Bertinelli. Valerie was friends with the previous owners.

Incorrect. That’s Eddie’s theory. There’s no medicallly valid claim that metal guitar pics cause cancer.
He died of throat cancer because he was a chain smoker for 45+ years.
