but thinking that because you have a degree in education and have only been in education makes one a great teacher much less even a serviceable one is in fact hilarious also.
Where did I say that? This shows how stupid your view is. You can't defend an idiotic statement that lacks details to support the claim that random people with experience automatically make better teachers than those trained in education.
Getting an education and training doesn't make one a great or even good teacher. Some people are good at it, and others are not, but simply stating people with "real-world" experience makes them somehow more qualified or better on its own is hilarious.

Too bad. It's going to pass. They're also going to eventually need a property tax though if they want to be on the same level with Central and Zachary.

but they should absolutely not be allowed to have access to EBRPSS Magnet schools
Why not? They PAY for those schools.

If they would just get rid of the "M to M transfer busses" and make the kids go to school in the district in which they live, that would fix a lot of this.
But if it takes making St George a separate school district, I guess I am for it.
Also, I just looked up magnet schools in BR, and "Scottlandville Middle Pre-Engineering Academy" actually made me laugh out loud. I'd be willing to bet my paycheck that the total money need for bonds outweighs the combined total yearly salary for the "alumni" that attended this school

Unions do more harm to schools systems when dealing with employees

did i say that? no I said you could draw from that and usually those people have a much higher IQ in general. will all be good teachers....absolutely not. Some will though and be much better than traditional teachers....that is what the interview process is for.

it does make them more qualified, doesnt mean they will be a good teach but it certainly makes them more qualified. In general they have a higher IQ too, why...because education, especially elementary education is one of the easiest majors and routinely has some of the lowest standardized testing scores of any major.
also because being in the real world actually teaches you real skills.
now is there a learning curve...absolutely. will all be good teachers..hell no. hell many wont even be decent teachers. but neither are 50% of the teachers today.
in the end I dont even care. I want to see the alpha program implemented. AI teaching through that program is much better than any group at actually teaching, see my post above to understand why.

Did that not happen in Central and Zachary?
Not sure about Central, but I think most Zachary sent their kids to public before they became independent. Oddly enough, lots of Zachary folks are sending their kids to private school now.

You know, maybe just a teacher showing up to teach is where the great restart should begin.
There are a lot of added positions that were not there when some of us went through school.
For our county high school: one principal, one secretary, coaches were teachers first and coaches afterwards. Three cafeteria workers. One custodian. No nurses on site, one teacher spent one hour a day as a general purpose advisor to make sure college prep students took the classes needed to get into state universities (Latin was required back then.)
For the three county schools, shared jobs were grounds maintenance, repairs.

I’ll believe it when their teams are no longer great

This is how you know, zachary is has a pretty good football team, not bc of the white kids.... White flight to private schools.
Back when I was in school, Zachary was more known for their baseball team being good.. I wonder why

If they are taking their money out for their own school district they won’t. Plain and simple.

Have to play up the “guilt and fear factor” for those who don’t who how the system is set up. If you don’t have kids in school you should pay a reduced rate on taxes. Have lived in 15 different states and no kids… always pay a ton for school taxes which is misspent money at best!

The schools exist because the tax payers of the area paid their taxes. Just because the area is now incorporated doesn't mean they didn't fund those taxes to build the schools. St George has as much right to the real estate as the EBR School Board...which is why EBR is giving the realestate to them in exchange for their relinquished ownership rights to all the other schools in the parish. This is the same thing that happened in Zachary. Its a fair trade.
I don't agree with St George incorporating and trimming a section out of BR. Its bullshite but it happened. However they have every right to taking over ownership of the schools within their incorporated limits.

St. George was never part of BR

The intent is to remove their kids from your friends because they have failed so thoroughly.
In large part, nobody wants your friends to be a part of the St. George school system.

At the end of the day, my kids are happy with their EBR public school. If Amendment 2 passes, incoming kindergartners will attend for one year, be unenrolled, and forced to attend a St. George school in 2027 (yes, how the law is written)
I'm fairly certain the law states that Kindergartners can stay through 5th and then have to re-apply for middle school.

Not that there aren’t legitimate concerns about the city separation, but the teacher’s union is the worst possible group of people to speak about those concerns.
