They sold the land for a profit but Redemptorist went from a 3-4A enrollment to a 1A enrollment because of the difference made by Zachary and Central.
Not the sole reason but it sure changed the calculus for the school by cutting serious numbers of students.

I don’t care if st George’s plan is written on the back of a blue bayou flyer.
Whatever it is, I 100% believe it’s better than whatever atrocious bull is coming from the EBR school board and their cronies and lackeys.
If you don’t want to have your kid in a St. George school then do what people have been doing for 50 years and move to the system you want.
This is all a bunch of whining from people who happen to live in St. George but their kids get to go to Mayfair or BRH.
They very people pacified to vote against STG because they were the few that got the best of both worlds while everyone else footed the bill.
Roosters coming home to roost and all. Oh well. Yes to Am 2.

“What are you going to offer them to ask them to stay? What will your retirement system look like? Will you be able to transfer your years of experience from EBR over to St. George, no you won’t, so you’ll be asking them to start all over,” Reams-Brown said.
This is definitely one of the larger concerns. How are you going to recruit top teachers that cannot transfer their retirement? I sure hope there's a good infrastructure in place beyond teachers. I have not seen anything but would love if someone would share. I know this has been in the works for a long time so hopefully they have it ready, but truthfully it sounds very rushed to roll this out in a year if the vote passes.

What a terrible idea. I listened to a guy convince AI that October was spelled with an X. When AI finally relented, he told AI that February was spelled with an X, and AI quickly agreed.
might want to research the alpha school and understand its not chatgt teaching

a median sat score of 1530 and those finished their freshman year having a median score of 1420 isnt a normal. its anything but a terrible idea
research the topic before giving opinions please

you know they hate losing more than power? Money. I love watching a bureaucrat scream when they start to lose public funding.

by recruiting those not in the teaching field....you know those that actually have done something in the real world

Can you elaborate? Why would someone want to make that transition?

I mean you’re just putting the cart before the horse.
There is a particular reason redemptorist closed and Zachary and central (and ultimately STG) school districts came to be.
It is all the same reason.

EBR Superintendent opposes St. George School System
It just mentions a teacher union's official opposes it.
Did you post the wrong link?

And this is all because of AI? I find that hard to believe considering AI hasn't been teaching these kids the entire time.
From your link:

Kindergarten: Mean RIT 177.2 (99th %ile). For context, the national norm for a 3rd grader in the fall is ~188. Alpha Kindergartners are performing nearly at a 3rd-grade level.
My 2nd Grader is reading at a 7th grade level. His math scores are at a 5th grade level. No AI in his class.

And now i'll be contentious with you because you are being a pompous arse. I'm not saying AI can be useful, but i don't quite trust AI at the moment, considering things i've read, and things i've seen and done with AI. Only a fool would leave their work in the hands of AI. Do you use AI to teach your kids how to play baseball?

They are closing schools and abandoning them like the Westminster School, but they somehow want St. George parents to remain in their failing system.
These people are clueless and why you have a terrible system in EBR.
Meanwhile Zachary and Central are doing awesome.
Baton Rouge = head in the sand - give us money.

Why would they not be able to transfer it? Is STG except from TRSL?

pay enough or offer enough benefits and they will.
example, have a good enough retirement you could easily get those in the late 30s or early 40s who are looking towards the future. you will have to pay more but so what? they need to do that anyways.

Exactly. Maybe I’d feel differently if my child was accepted into the magnet program & I got to pocket the $10k I spend a year on tuition.
Speaking of, the second the magnet application started asking about free/reduced lunch I knew our chances were gone.

i am saying that their students that are on the alpha program are out performing even the students at the prestigious boarding schools in the NE

ok cool, my 4th grader can do most concepts taught in algebra 1, guess we can use that as a conclusion that we should never look for a better way.

actually i wasnt. anything but

i certainly use AI to help design programs and guide programming decisions. their full armcare is designed by AI based on the scores of the app when they use the armcare device. not to mention every mlb team and major training facility is using AI in some form or fashion.
I didnt say strictly use AI. There are teachers there as guides and this isnt traditional AI
essentially how the program works is this
1) base time is 2 hours per day. so no BS. this can be increased to 3 hours based on what is needed for each student
2) the system test you on the subjects at your grade level, determines where you are strong and where you are weak. It will adjust curriculum around this and will add time each day to progress the areas you are weak at while also progressing the subjects you are strong in at an appropriate pace and subject wise
3) the system will ask you questions on your hobbies, what you like etc. It will use those answers to teach you. so if you like basketball, it will use that to teach you certain things in say math. Need to teach how to find average, they will use free throws as an example etc
4) it learns how you learn. if you are a visual learner, hands on, need to write it down, audible etc and it will adjust the way it teaches based off this
5) at the same time it starts preparing you for test like the SAT/ACT slowly each day
this keeps the kids engaged. some kids in say 7th grade may be doing 5th grade math and slowly catching up making sure they understand the concepts then others will be doing algebra 2 or geometry. This allows them to be much more prepared for college in terms of knowledge
some schools knock out the learning right off the bat and go on to their activities. like the bennet school in houston where they go directly for sports. others are like the one in austin. the learning block is done first but also take multiple breaks to recess and outdoor activites. After lunch though go on to do things like write business plans(even starting businesses like food trucks etc, learning finance and stock trading and personal finance, they learn to cook, learn how to use tools, etc
watch this one about the one in austin. its actually much more of a throw back feel to it except you are learning with computers. You learn lots of life skills.

Thats because most of the kids that go to Woodlawn don’t live anywhere near St George. They get shipped in and that school is a shell of its former self because of it.
Is this still the case? Looking at the attendance zone map, Woodlawn’s zone seems to be pretty limited to the Southeast area (Shenandoah, Old Jefferson, Perkins/Old Perkins, Hoo Shoo Too, etc.). Tara High has an insane map, but the others look like they’re in areas that make sense.

I don’t live in EBR, so I’m asking earnestly.

Their plan is to charter it out and will come to some agreement with the magnet schools
This should not be allowed. I understand why they wanted their own city and own school district, but they should absolutely not be allowed to have access to EBRPSS Magnet schools. Put your kids in the charter schools you are creating and deal with it.
The St. George people wanting to have their cake and eat it to can deal with the consequences of their choices.
EBRPSS is a major mess and has been for many years, but live with your choices and so be it.

The assumption that experience makes one able to be a great teacher, much less even a decent one, is hilarious.

i actually dont presume that.
but thinking that because you have a degree in education and have only been in education makes one a great teacher much less even a serviceable one is in fact hilarious also.
