Im all for St. George getting what they want. But will the middle and upper class people currently sending their kids to private school suddenly switch to public? I doubt it. I know I wouldn’t until I saw some evidence that the public schools are truly viable.

They had the “same concerns” about Central, Baker, and Zachary. 2 out of 3 ain’t bad Iim guessing
Baker failed in large part due to Judge Parker postponing it from starting for so long under his desegregation case that many of the active parents pushing for the district gave up and moved elsewhere. That was after the dragged out state wide constitutional amendment process every district wanting to break apart from the parish district has to go thru. Baker was not the same when Parker finally approved it as it was when the process/push to form began.

EBR Superintendent opposes St. George School System
Your subject is wrong. The article you quote is about the teacher’s union President opposing the district. Probably worried about losing power and having less money to waste.
From your quoted article.
quote:
The East Baton Rouge Federation of Teachers and School Employees is opposing a proposal for St. George to break away and form its own school district, saying hundreds of jobs and the financial future of EBR Schools could be on the line.

This is the same situation as why BR didn’t want St George to happen.
The school system of EBR uses St George like a piggy bank to fund their own failing and pathetic areas.

Because the Superintendent didn't say any of this. The story is about the fricking Teacher's Union President.
Cole may not have said this, but you can bet your arse he agrees with it.

Everything quoted are valid concerns if Amendment 2 passes. Would be very helpful for St. George leadership to release a plan to address this. Ease a lot of anxiety.
The leadership of St George isnt allowed to do diddly squat in regards to running a school system. If passed, a board will be elected and a superintendent hired. Then they run the whole ball of wax

But your retirement amount is based off your salary. If you are in a St. George school what will your salary be?
One, your retirement is based off your highest years, not the job youre working at when you retire. Secondly these teachers arent working for St. George until they are hired. They will know the salary when they apply. Even then St George wont be forced to take them

Just because the money follows the kid (good!) doesn’t mean automatically you will have the same support structures in place in a brand new school district.
When a parent moves a kid into a new district, they also have no idea what "support structures" they offer. Same thing for St George. Its a new district

These shouldn’t be used as models for St. George/EBR.
I dont think you thought this one through. St George is moving out of a MUCH larger district, and creating a smaller one. So its actually a better scenario according to the logic you just posted

And how many unnecessary jobs tied to the schools system already receiving 6 figures have recently received raises? You can start with all that bullshite

The local media comedy show once did a skit where Parker won a lifetime achievement award from the builders and realtors of Ascension and Livingston Parishes for his work on the desert case.

Everyone go vote across the state for YES to St. George forming their school system. Get friends and family to vote also. TY

Thank you for an actual thoughtful response.
1. St. George likes to say this - “it is not our school district, it is YOUR school district.” Problem is the school board and superintendent who will be the first to actually make the new district are all appointed by the Governor.
2. That is the point. Teachers don’t know their salary. I prefer to not have the government and state legislators get involved and take my job away from me. I prefer to not have the government and state legislators get involved and force kids out of their schools. That is anti-conservative to me and not pro “school choice.”
3. I don’t think you thought this one through either. St. George school district literally does not exist yet. You mean if I move to a ‘different’ district…, then I can do my research and make accommodations. No parent or teacher can do that with St. George and St. George will be taking kids August 2027. Yet St. George wants our tax money. Just give some plan more than “trust us.”
4. Central and Zachary are still very different. Not sure anyone can argue that they are different sizes, located further away (not as much teacher/residence overlap, and have different demographics. Central and Zachary grew up and left the house as adults. St. George and EBR are going through a divorce.

What will your retirement system look like? Will you be able to transfer your years of experience from EBR over to St. George, no you won’t, so you’ll be asking them to start all over,
Some of these people are retarded.

Couldn't she use those teacher salaries to hire more main office admin staff to oversee something?

She is apparently a SpEd teacher in addition to a union boss.
I guess that helps her relate to her students by being a successful retard.

Baker failed because Parker closed Scotlandville High in 1983 and sent half those kids to Baker, which precipitated white flight on a massive scale. By the time Baker got its own school district all the wypipo had already moved to Central, Zachary and Livingston.

That’s fair but it doesn’t make it any better. In fact, it just goes to show that democrats (and yes, the teacher’s union president is most certainly a democrat) will lie about anything to hold on to power
