DA millage should be only yes vote.

Why should that be a 20 year millage? If he needs more money they should put more money in the budget. What if something changes and they don't need the extra money after 10 years? Hell, we'll most likely have AI robot cops patrolling and locking things down by then.

They need to expand early voting for these pop-up elections random times of year. 1 week is not enough.

It’s not that hard. Wasn’t a person in line last week after 5 PM. Took me all of 30s to do it.
There were 8 people inside working waiting for voters.

Let’s have them work another few weeks of the year and eat up more tax money.

Yea the only time you’ll see a wait for early voting are the big federal elections.

Exactly. I would bet most people don’t know there’s an election Saturday.

I didn't until this thread, and will now happily go vote no for everything.

I have every alert possible turned off on my phone, but I would not object to a message being sent to cell phones to remind people to vote. And only 1 reminder, not 10 of them.

I get an email every time there’s an election.

Property tax is such a fricking scam. Why do I have to pay way more just because I have nicer house. If you want to do Property Tax, it should be the same for everyone. I don't use the cops, roads, schools, BREC, DA anymore than the po folk. In fact, they use the DA, COPS, CATS and all the bullshite way more than I do. Underserved my arse, they are over served and bleeding us all dry. When will it end.

I'm in a small town in Texas and we have a property tax decrease on the ballot right now too.

It's a bit shocking to me how many people are even remotely entertaining keeping a substantially higher tax rate in place when it's an option to reduce.

All this is an even worse kick in the nuts for people like me who don't live in EBR but own property in EBR. Just have to sit back and take it.

Hey I think the world of teachers and many deserve more than what they make for dealing with these kids, but a third of my property tax bill goes to EBR schools & my kid is in private school so this doesn’t benefit me.

While I get where you're coming from in a way, you have to understand that if you have less educated people walking around, that directly impacts your life and the life of your children. I too will likely vote no on any proposed tax increase given that the current EBRSB is run by morons, but the sentiment that just because you aren't receiving direct benefits from paying for a public school doesn't actually make sense.

In theory your taxes would benefit you in all avenues because you have more educated citizens making better choices, reducing liability because they are able to make better/smarter choices in their lives, etc. Just because you are technically paying for another kid to go to school doesn't mean you don't benefit from it.

Public schools are glorified babysitting centers. There's not much learning going on.

current EBR millage rates:

Link

43.45 Mils associated with the EBR school system (and my son goes to private school)

I reside in St. George with a millage rate of 114.583 mils, so about 38% of my property taxes go to the EBR school system. so i pay over $1000/yr to the school system, and another $7200/yr for private school

That $1000 should follow my child.......

Also, notice how they are picking a run-off election not in November for a tax election. turnout is lowest at his time of year. and it goes into effect in 2027, which gives them multiple times to bring it up again if it fails......

I absolutely agree. If this were Ascension Parish, I’d probably support it.

But it’s EBR and they’ve done nothing to justify continuing to renew these taxes. How much have they doled out just In Superintendent pay out contracts in the last few years? It’s been a revolving door of superintendents. This past summer they created a 6 figure position to appease parents after their choice of superintendent wasn’t chosen.

Take a look at the spending in EBR, the amount of Administrators making 6 figures is disgusting. LINK

Regardless of what the funds raised are used for, I have always voted NO to any increase or continuation of property tax milages.

Public schools here are nothing but huge jobs programs. It costs over 15k to educate one child in EBR, which is 3k more than it costs to send my kid to private high school. Why is that? Because the bloated EBR schools are admin-heavy and nothing will change until they tighten up. There are less students and schools in the district now which means is should be cheaper to fund the school system. But it isn’t.

I will never vote for more funding for schools until St George ISD is operating.

Feel free to look it up yourself.

The program has been taking out ads to promote the program and tax renewal. Which is an issue itself, IMO. My taxes are paying to advertise supporting the renewal of a taxes.

The executive director makes 6 figures as a public school employee.
