Really sad that the Green Light project got voted down.

i refuse to give my gov't any more of my money, regardless of what it is for, until they can prove to me that they know how to manage that money correctly.
If there is a tax proposal that comes out of my pocket, i'm voting against it.
What's stupid is that the hotel tax didn't pass.

Please define the conditions the gov't needs to meet in order to satisfy your demands
Would one employee getting caught stealing $10K from the nearly $6B state budget immediately make you think things aren't running correctly? Would you agree it is a nearly impossible task for gov't to actually fully satisfy voter's "manage my money better than I do" demand?

Remember when they said casinos and the state lottery would be used for roads and education.... Good times...
It is being used for that. It's just that the money that was already being used for those things in the firsr place is now being used elsewhere

Louisiana is one of the the highest taxed states in the country. We are at the bottom of basically every measurable category. No more need be said.
We don't have a money problem. We have a dumbass politician and corruption problem.

75% of that money was probably used to put in red lights at every fricking intersection in the city so that we can insure that it takes 45 minutes to travel 2 miles.
Seriously, our road planning has to be the worst in the nation.

Things like building the St Francisville bridge and pulling all the ferries while everyone sits at a standstill on the main bridge are why I will never support an infrastructure tax again. DOTD and the legislature have proven to be extremely poor stewards of the money they do have. Why would I want to give them more?

They TRIED to get funding for the I10 bridge but people/voters scoffed at the price ($1.8B) and impact on traffic during construction.
The St. Francisville bridge was Plan B if I remember correctly

Besides, that info came from state-run news, so I GUARANTEE that it was strife with overages and handouts, and nowhere near that number.
The exact same thing can be said about projects here.

Harrisonburg is getting a nice new bridge...in fairness, their current bridge is an antique.

There's only so much they can do to make the traffic better without a loop, which is just not politically possible. What they have done has absolutely improved the underlying infrastructure though and it's really not debateable.

In 2015 China had a PPP GDP per capita of $14,100 (wow, it is growing fast!). The United States had a PPP GDP per capita of $55,800. Everything costs less in China to make because of the price of labor.

I hope there weren't any rare newts livings there.

It amazes me how much money it takes to do simple road construction.
I'm sure this post will get down voted, but it has a ton to do with how much results matter in China. If you want to continue and/or advance your political career in China, you had better produce positive results. The party doesn't really tolerate mediocrity.
In the US, if you want to continue and/or advance your political career, you need 50% + 1 of a highly ignorant population to push the button with your name on it. Results don't matter.
The current President of China has a political career over 30 years long in which he held executive positions at the lowest local level up to being mayor of a city of 7 million people and an economy that would rank in the top 30 in the world. Compare that to our President who never held an executive position in his life prior to being President.

Not saying you are wrong, but I would like to see a source on this. I was trying to look up info on this a little while ago, and I found an article that placed the state tax burden in the bottom five in the country. That is to say that we are amongst the lowest taxed in the country. That was state personal income tax. Also, Louisiana gives huge breaks to corporate income tax. Maybe you are saying that sales tax makes up the difference?

Definitely true.
