To be clear…it is never worth it! Ever.

Especially in today’s accessibility to safe ride home via our uber ride world. Risk of high cost, reputation, life of guilt if cause harm to others, and freedom gone.

Party! Drink! Have fun. Celebrate life. Enjoy it because life is short.

Just don’t drive afterwards.

Please let the OT inside the minds of those who rationalize driving after drinking. Why dat? Worth the risk? Tell us your wisdom.

PS, RIP LSU students who perished Sat. And may drunk driver who killed them find hell…then peace as she meets victims in after life.

To the OT parents of these OT posters…May your abusers rot in hell.

"Worth" what ? I dont get it .. there's nothing worth ever drinking and driving, how can anyone argue it's some how 'worth' something?

It's my opinion, and this is really the only 'soapbox' thing in life ill climb on and be 'preachy', but whatever.... drinking and then driving should be banned completely.. Like, NO amount of alcohol should be ok before getting behind the wheel of a 3,000 lb weapon ... not even one sip of beer... Zero tolerance.. we should have such a stigma against mixing cars and booze, that people should look as unfavorably on it as they we way we now look at cigarette smoking, if you hope to live a long healthy life.. it's simply not an option .. plus, there are just way too many ways in 2026 to avoid ever drinking and driving .. Uber, designate a driver, go sober, drink at a bar within walking distance of home, etc etc etc .

Agreed. Same should be done for using a phone and driving.

You're not 100% wrong.. but they are two very different things .

As mentioned, to me for drinking & driving - zero tolerance, no drinking then driving .. End of .

With phones, one can be responsible, set their phone on a holder/charger on the dashboard, and use Google Maps or another app for directions.. or can have a hands-off conversation with a coworker while driving... that's totally different than holding your phone, texting, checking social media et al.. but but all the things I mentioned fall under "using a phone".. it's a more complicated issue to deal with than drinking & driving imo .

The tricky part is if you make it home safely it was worth it.

I can see this point. Different degrees of ability based on the individual. A one size fits all baseline probably misses some of the nuance.

Maybe setting the bar really low at "no phone use at all" prevents the responsible distracted drivers that have higher capacities.

I don't drive and text though so my bar is really low.

Drunk driving penalties are still too lenient.
Do the crime do the time.
Eye for an eye tooth for a tooth.
You drink, drive, kill - you should die.

I do not know the exact penalties for specific related offenses. They may be statutorily appropriate but the application, enforcement and loopholes in actual real-world penalties drastically erode the general public’s fear of them.

Plus we have seen in society an erosion in general personal responsibility and its natural cohort a decrease in impulse control.

We need to start having the same public shame level for folks staring at their phones. Reaction time for someone under the influence is slow, it's even slower for someone not looking at all.

This. I almost got run off the road this morning by Darkeshia while she tried to finish up her TikTok video as she darted across three lanes of I-10 traffic in her busted Altima to catch the Pecue exit.

It's an interesting argument, I agree with you but think a lot of folks would use this same exact line regarding drinking & driving

Phones are causing more problems on the road than drunk drivers. We all pass by tons of people with their phone in their face, every day. They are oblivious to their surrounding, which means they are used to not getting caught and perceive no risk. That's a clear sign that cops are not pulling people over for it, even though many are committing a primary offense simultaneously (ie traveling in left lane, not passing). Phone usage should be a primary offense everywhere.
