This guy is a democrat hack. His brother’s motto is “never let a crisis go to waste”. Looks like he has the same outlook

The shooting will have started LONG before 18mths. In fact, I'd say we're getting pretty damn close to some sort of armed rebellion if we don't see things changing before May.

He helped write Obamacare.

That alone invalidates any opinion he has on any other healthcare policy matters.

Saw that. That’s two football seasons. Is it wrong that I relate it to that?

Not worth it (and not because of football season butnjustnputting it into perspective time wise).

For these people who are suggesting we stay shutdown for 18 months. Can any of them provide any adequate feasible solutions that will allow the American people to even survive that long without income. Because by that time, even the biggest of the OT Ballers will be reduced to the same bread and soup lines as everyone else.

Like they care about that.

You know their solution, though.

Well, on the bright side, after we are locked down with little or no income for 18 months, no American president will have to get in a plane and do a worldwide apology tour for how unfairly superior our country is ever again.

It's easy to spout this type of nonsense when you are not the one making the decisions.

I already know a little bit of Mandarin, I should be ok coming out the 18 month lockdown.

That's the problem when you only have one variable you're worried about - it's easy to optimize against that variable.

FWIW - I'm on the "fully on board" team with the April shutdown/slowdown on the basis that we didn't have the testing, data, and PPE needed to fully get a grip on the situation.

Once that is done, ease restrictions as allowable to maintain hospitals slightly below capacity (which should be continuously increasing in its own right). This shouldn't be about saving every possible life. The world became a slightly deadlier place with this new virus circulating around, if we can't snuff it out completely we have to deal with it.

Newest projections say 60k deaths...flu numbers...and you want to shut the country down for 18 months? Complete irrational horseshite.

18 months is dumb but the model that generated that 60k number assumes that the entire country moves to shelter-in-place and maintains it until August 4th.

quote:

The model includes the effects of social distancing measures implemented at the “first administrative level” (in the US this generally means the state level) and assumes continued social distancing through the end of the modeled period (August 4, 2020).

It doesn’t make sense at all. Projections are bottoming out.

But isn’t that because everything has been shut down?
So, and I’m legit just playing Devils advocate here, if you open things back up - the projections skyrocket again. I’m assuming that’s the position he’s coming from.

However, there’s no possible way that could happen without anarchy and millions dead of poverty and starvation. At some point the civic leaders are going to have to get input from more than just doctors.

There has to be a big picture approach to this that also takes the heath of the economy and the mental health of our citizens (especially our children who are much less affected by the virus but deeply impacted by social distancing) along with the physical health concerns. 18 months would kill more people through collateral damage than this virus ever could.

Because just about everyone advocating this has a taxpayer funded job that will not be impacted.

This douche just wants Medicare for all and universal basic income. Don’t let a good crisis go to waste.
