Probably bc there was more to why he did it than just sex. Desecration of the Church altar was probably part of what he was doing. There seems to be a strong possibility that what he was doing was a satanic or demonic ritual.
The Archdiocese had the altar burned immediately and other protocols enacted when they found out.
