You still got the better end of that deal.

Lord knows what he does to dogs when no one is around
Let’s just say he is the reason for the peanut butter shortage we experienced last year.

we would never board our dog
I think my lab would rather live at the place we board him than at home. He goes there for day care once a week too and comes home exhausted from playing with the other dogs.

I just give a couple neighborhood kids $15 a day to come over a couple times a day to take care of the dog.

You want to pay someone to live in your house, eat your food and shite in your toilet?

We hire our babysitter to stay with our two dogs. We pay her $40 per day.

Yeah that was the first place my mind went. "Like I'm going to pay you to poop here and play with my dogs and sleep in our house???"
There was quite a few years in college and my 20's when I would've paid to do that. Sounds like a blast.

Price out a kennel.
See if you can get someone to do it for less than that.
Your choice will become obvious.

You don't have any kids in the neighborhood you can give a few buck to come feed, water and let it outside every day?

We pay $100/night for 2 dogs. We live in an expensive market so this is actually cheaper than boarding both dogs and I don’t have to pick them up/drop them off at the ridiculous hours the boarder requires, so it’s well worth it. She stays in a guest room at our house and was recommended by several friends who we trust. I don’t like leaving my house empty for days on end so that’s an added benefit.

If you find the right one, it’s priceless. We pay $75 a day for overnight stay and an extra $20 if we want her to stop by during the day for a day visit. Leaves around 7am each day and returns around 6pm. So basically a normal work day for the pups with no day visit.
Which is cheaper than the kennel when you have two dogs. Plus it’s great not having to stop by the kennel on the way home from the airport and hoping we can make it before they close bc of delayed flights. And the dogs prefer to be at home.
Our friend recommended an old lesbian that LOVES dogs. If one isn’t eating right, she buys supplements out of pocket. Hell, she even buys them Christmas presents. We get a report card of how they did each day to the point of how solid their shits are. It’s a bit overkill. But the wife loves it , it’s cheaper, and more convenient.

We use a lady who has a service in the neighborhood. She doesn't stay at the house; she comes over 4ish times a day to feed, let out for bathroom, and walks our dog once a day. Full day is $30, half day (2 visits) is $15, and she usually discounts if we need her for several days.
Yes I find it very useful as she is incredibly reliable, and due to our dog's size, is cheaper than a kennel would be.

We have someone stay at our house. Met her through Rover and she is fantastic.
$40/dog/day which I feel is very reasonable.

my wife has a friend that she'll fly in to town to stay with our dogs if we're going out of town for more than a few days and our daughter isn't available/goes with us
If by fly in you mean you use your airline credit ability that’s one thing, but if you pay to fly someone in that absurd.
This is where having friends or family helps a lot. Or knowing someone with a teenager and having well behaved pets. A 10 min walk and twice a day feeding is very easy for a teenager. Sure it could be a party risk, but a simple vetting and smart hike devices is easy to monitor.
