For the same cost you can hire someone to just stop by twice a day for walk and feedings and not stay

We just took a 5 day trip and had someone stay at our house and gave them 75 bucks a day. We have three dogs and one is a rambunctious 6 month old puppy that can be a lot to deal with and wakes up during the night so we bumped it up because we knew he could be a pain.
Usually if we are out for a weekend the in-laws can watch them or we have a buddy in town that can sleep over and we leave some food and beer money but we try and avoid kenneling because i don’t want them in a small kennel for an extended period of time and the last time we did Camp Bow Wow type place they came back with kennel cough.

Are they staying the whole time at your house? I would say $100 if so. Min wage is 7.25. Assuming they sleep 8 hours that’s 16 they’re taking care of your dog. That’s $116. Paying cash, take out the taxes and it would be around $100. If they’re coming from somewhere else 2x a day, I would say $40 or so depending how far they’re having to travel.

We keep our friends' dogs since we have 4 of our own and 20 acres for them to run around. $50 per day is what we usually get.
We don't "charge" per se, but most of them pay us whatever they would pay for boarding, plus they know their dog is not cooped up in a kennel 22+ hours a day at my farm.

We pay $20/day for a 30 minute cat feeding/litter box cleaning/play visit each day.
I put out 5 full litter boxes, opened a whole bag of food and left bathtubs full of water for our cats and left them for alone for two weeks
when we got back they were fine and seemed pissed we returned

I think they have a small rental down the street where they will house the dogs while gone rather than in their "main" home.

This is what we pay but it's for a person to be there all the time and we have two 80 lb+ very active dogs that get two walks a day.

I figured that but why do they have an unoccupied rental? I’d be getting that girl to rent the rental and compensate for watching of dogs. I’d also assume an unoccupied rental isn’t furnished, so why would someone want to stay there?
If someone is going to stay at my place I’d tell them to clear out the fridge and just expect to come home and go shopping. Not stay at some unoccupied place.

First, have you ever used Rover? Find it useful?

i typically pay 20 dollars a visit for walking two dogs and checking on two cats. 2 trips a day so 40 a day.
i would suspect a live in would be around that since they get free room board and dont have to travel to you.
you need to up that if your animal need medical care or special attention.

I assumed maybe it was a furnished airbnb that they did not rent that week so the sitter could stay with the dogs.

Just board your dogs like normal people dog.
If you have multiple dogs, it’s often cheaper for someone to stay at your home. My vet charges $75 for 2 labs. More if they get 15 minutes playtime outside. My daughter (no pics) got $50 per day while in college and after as well working for several different people. She worked her normal job, went to class, and stayed the night. One of them had a gorgeous place with a pool on the outskirts of Houston. Now that she moved, she really misses this extra job. Having someone there and being in their place is better for the dogs, especially if you have an old one.

There are a ton of people on Siegen Ln that would probably do it for free. I mean, they might kill your dog and burn down your house, but at least you pinched a penny, tightwad.

I paid mine $300 for the weekend (Thursday night thru Monday day). All she had to do was sleep at
The house and feed the hounds at night. She went to work (her regular job) during the day Friday and Monday.

We pay $30/night for our guy to stay at the home of a Rover sitter we found.
Having him alone all day at our house and someone only being with him at night here was not appealing to us. Plus he gets playtime with her dogs and others she may be keeping. He loves when we drop him off.
She could come stay at our home, but the price goes up considerably because it’s more work for her. I think $65 per night.

We use a company here in the NOLA area. They basically stay at our house full time and only leave to go do other pet jobs like walks, etc... It is $100 a day.
