Was it only weekly back then? In the 90's and 2000's it was a daily opportunity to be told you were going to hell.
Yes, once a week and it was organized, Thursday late afternoon if I recall. I think they had an informal moderator and you would sign up. It wasn't a bunch of assholes berating you as you walked by.

LSU effectively ended it in 2013 when they had to modify their policy or face a lawsuit.

I believe the new rule is now that EVERYWHERE is free speech, not just one section at a certain time. This is America after all.

I remember Jeff Duhe’ as this. He’d wear some Salvation Army purchased semi-military jacket and attempt to bring some order to the chaos, standing on the bench with his list of who’s next.

You have to be retarded to think
A) You have any chance of converting someone and
B) That yelling at people is how the "real" Jesus would want you to accomplish evangelicalism

In today's society those who profess to be the most tolerant and loving seem to be the most violent and anti free speech if you don't agree with them, just saying.

Brother Jed and Sister Cindy were entertaining back in the days. He was basically trolling people before internet trolls existed.

Violation of the 1st Amendment. Several public universities had similar zones on their campuses and they've all had their policies changed in recent years.

I didn't realize it was an actual school-sponsored event or that the previous policy existed. Interesting.

I think the logic was to prevent people from getting mobbed by activists/campaigners just leaving class.

And don't forget the Hare Krishna guys chanting (circa 1988). That would give you an earworm for the rest of the day

Do you remember a chubby guy with a nearly shaved head, political type, very leftist politics that was there a lot during those years? Can't recall the guy's name. I killed time there quite a bit when the weather was nice.

While avoiding going to class in 1996, I came across David Duke making a comeback to his old stomping grounds - formerly literal stomping grounds since the first time around he was wearing German jack boots and the rest of the Nazi outfit.

He was a candidate for the senate that year. Didn’t go well, as evidenced in part by the maybe five people there to see him that day.

They do but a mask is required and you must only speak about how John Bel saved us with quarantine.

My sister said back in the day Duke would show up at FSA to preach his "yarns" while wearing an all-red tuxedo. Crazy f**k.

I first thought that read "many fine people," which is what some would say these days.

David Duke was a frequent speaker in the 1967 period in the free speech ally.

Don’t know about LSU, but in general a university campus today is the least likely place to encounter “free speech”, only “accepted speech” is allowed. The world is turned upside down.
