I'm a little over a year sober and it's incredible the fricking grip it still has on me some days.

my wife bought some vanilla beans and a fifth of vodka to make homemade vanilla for cooking. Do you know how many nights I’ve walked into the pantry and stared at that fifth of vodka? I am 25 years sober.

Depends on if I am "Drinking" or "Having a drink."

When I am in New Orleans and I have a Bloody Mary with my lunch thats "Having a drink."

Later that night when I am doing shots and drinking Hand grenade thats "Drinking."

Having a drink- taste
Drinking- to get fricked up

I think your wife needs to understand your fight against the problem! If she can not do that she is selfish as hell!

It's something man. My life is incredible without booze and drugs. Words can't even describe how great it is. But there are days like today and several others over the past year. 5:30 in the morning on the way to work and already thinking about frickin buying a case and a 5th when I get off in 10 hours. And the way home pulling off the side of the rode and calling my grandfather to come over make sure I don't frick up. Very fortunate to have great family friends and a sponsor that really care and are invested in this journey.

I'm working on my sobriety right now.

Let me say this: drinking definitely makes you feel better in the moment, but it hurts in the long term.

Truth. It is very effective at short term relief, but its just compacting the burden.

Damn. I’m sorry to hear that. What’s the reason? Frustration? Just hating that the temptation is there, or the urge?

No offense intended, and not to tell you your business but since it's affecting you this much, you'd probably be much healthier and in a better frame of mind if you did quit.

No offense taken. You're 100% right.

You got to expound. What do you mean, you had nightmares, your awake life was a dream state? Your memory is wonky?

Nightmares. Dreams were so real they blended with the waking world. I can recall smells, touch, pain, etc. Vivid af.

Used to. Alcohol is too destructive to your body, mind and soul. Now I use edibles.

I don't drink to ease my troubles. I have very few troubles. Great wife and family. Nice house, great career, and plenty of money.

Most nights after the kids go to bed around 8 I'll have a few beers with my wife and we'll watch TV and talk and stuff. She's an early riser and goes to bed early. I'll stay up and drink beer, probably smoke a cigar, and watch sports until about 11:30 - midnight. Drink anywhere from 8-10 maybe 12 beers sometimes. Wake up the next morning fine, bright and early, get ready and head to work.

By the book I drink "excessively" but it has caused me no problems. About the only thing I'll say is I'd probably be better off going for a jog. It would be healthier.

Alcoholic? I'd say no. I just like to drink beer. I haven't even had a beer in a few days. Will probably have a few tomorrow night for the NFL game for sure.
