didn’t mean the confederate flag. I mean’t worrying about offending other people. Stop being dense.
Then your comment doesn’t make sense in context of responding to my post. My post didn’t advocate not doing something simply because someone might be offended. It specifically referenced reasonable offense at the confederate flag.

letting how others view what you do affect what you do is absolutely a slippery slope. What someone else thinks should have zero impact on your decisions.

This is also dumb. You should absolutely be considerate of other people. What you should avoid is worrying about people who are unreasonably or intentionally offended, or choosing not to do something you know to be right because of concern of what others think.

My thoughts exactly. It isn't worth it to deal with the offended idiots of our society.

yep. just shake your head and move on. What is the point of ruining YOUR day by worrying about what someone you don’t know, or even if it is someone you do know - if it doesn’t affect you?

If someone wants to fly a rebel flag, so what? someone wants to fly a nazi flag? so what? Would you rather those people HIDE what they are? You want them to go underground where you can’t tell who they are?

Worry about yourself.

I can’t think of a flag that would offend me. However there are multiple flags that would cause me not to associate with someone. The rebel flag is one. I wouldn’t want anything to do with someone promoting BLM propaganda either.

In my teens I had a confederate flag beach towel. Never got a comment or a weird look about it back then.

Society chose to place taboos on items and speech very quickly in the early 90s.

So long as an individual isn't infringing on the rights of another, I don't care what they do.

I'm assuming he's talking about black people. You think black people (as a group, I'm well aware there are images of black folks with the battle flag on the internet) had to be told to dislike that flag? I support anyone's right to display any flag that they choose but that's ignorant.

Which is completely understandable, right?

Of course

With that knowledge, what purpose does it serve to display it?

Rebellion, racism, F U to government, historical interest (granted most of those folks don’t wear or fly it publicly, ones about history). Several different reasons.

As long as people aren't physically harming others and are just minding their own business, then there should be no problem at all with flying the Confederate flag, whether you agree with it or not. If they bring it into a business/establishment that does not allow that, then of course it's a problem. But otherwise, I don't think people have to have any obligation of being considerate towards other's opinions. I know the people who rip down the flags and break people's shite aren't considerate, so why should those flying the flag be?

Serious question

How could it? I'm a white southerner, that flag was stitched just for me. Any white southerner claiming they're offended by it is fricking full of shite. That being said, I totally understand why a black person would hate it.

Everything people do in life is at least partially due to how they want others to perceive them. What you wear, what you drive, how you cut your hair, etc. People present themselves based on how they want to be perceived. Whether fair or not, the Confederate flag has earned a certain perception. Those who still clothe themselves with it do so in full knowledge of this perception of what it says about them. Either they invite that perception because it matches how they want to be perceived, or they want the attention it draws for whatever reason. No one is just clothing themselves with the stars and bars anymore just cause “it looks cool” any more than people do with a swastika or a black power fist. These are overt symbols that people clothe themselves in while fully aware of the messages and perceptions they project.

Of course. I haven’t suggested otherwise.

I also agree that there is no obligation to be a considerate person.

Definitely not... but it gives me a pretty solid idea about the person flying it.
