Salvation Army is my organization, not the Red Cross.

Best to give to a church or local group that is actually headed to the scene. Red Cross has way to much overhead and only small portion goes to needy

To the best of my knowledge (and having direct connections to Aransas county officials), Red Cross never even showed up in Rockport, TX after Harvey.
HEB did more and was better positioned to help victims in Texas than any government agency or national charity. Donate to the supermarket chain that can leverage buying power and existing distribution, or a church sending a caravan of food, supplies, and BBQ smokers.

I stopped donating money to the Red Cross after Katrina, when I was told by a higher-up that the money was needed more in "urban" areas then the suburbs "where there is no reason people can't afford to recover on their own"
Between that, the insane overhead, and them raising money for one disaster yet spending it somewhere else, I don't donate to them anymore.
I do, however, still give money to them for first aid / cpr / water safety classes. I just haven't found another provider that is as good as they are.

Nope. Too much of the money they collect goes to administrative cost.

Red Cross should be dismantled. Very corrupt and nefarious!

My parents lost damn near everything they owned in 2016. The Red Cross absolutely refused to help them in any way and there was also some incident about a plate lunch that pissed my mom off. I don't remember exactly the details, but whatever it was caused my Mom to vehemently despise the Red Cross. So, I talk bad about them every time I get a chance and refuse to give them a dime for anything, anytime, anywhere. Screw the Red Cross (this one's for you, Mom).
Also, I made a decision several years ago to only give money to St. Judes. I try to donate to them yearly, when I'm able to do so. I tell everyone and everything else no and feel ok about it because of my donation to St. Jude.

They did come see me after the flood of '16 so I give them a little. Didn't see United Way so I don't give through payroll at work!

“Red Cross
In 2010, top executive compensation looked like this:
Executive director Gail McGovern made $561,210
EVP for biomedical services James Hrouda made $621,779
Biomedical services president Shaun Gilmore made $573,933”

Don't give them blood, either. They don't give that away, they sell that. That's worse than just giving them money. They are literally willing to have a well organized and publicized system so that they can bleed you to bring in more money.
If you want to donate blood, find a local blood bank. Large hospitals may have their own blood centers as well. They're going to sell the blood, too, but at least that stays with a local organization.
frick THE RED CROSS.

I saw the Red Cross vans driving around in Mandeville and Slidell after Katrina. No idea what they were doing though. I only ever saw them driving, or at areas where the National Guard was giving out MREs.
Salvation Army people stopped by, fed us, and hung out for a bit. Food was a hodgepodge of rice, corn, ground beef, and other stuff, but it was pretty decent. We told them we were good on food, but they came and fed us the next day as well. It was sandwiches and a chicken and sausage gumbo then.
The only reason people badmouth The Salvation Army is because they are a Christian group

I don't. Look at how much the CEO and other top management makes. It's not just the red cross either there are multiple nonprofit organizations paying their managers 500k or more a year.

I mostly give to the Red Cross just because people on this board hate the Red Cross
